Hi, new to this. Have been reading for days but 3 parts! My tag of 15 yrs is dying on me (batt corrosion), and need to get a replacement sub 1k. Seems that it's either visodate or sinn 556 but not sure what should I get. Is the sinn much better than visodate? What's so good abt it? Appreciate any kind advice.
Thanks gene

Sinn has a TOP grade movement. The Visodate is a standard grade. :)

To add on my views,

The portuguese automatic is thicker than the chrono.
Diameter is 1.1mm larger. But the Vis-a-vis increase in lug size and thickness also makes for a slightly more larger watch.

5000x series movement when viewed through the caseback is not really eye pleasing..movement looks unrefined.

Portuguese chrono got 2 variants, 1 pre mid- 2009 model, comes with stamped indices - this watch looks cheap.

The post mid 2009 model comes with applied indexes. The numbers looks thicker and watch is more luxurious

One thing i hate about the port chrono is the lack of deployment buckle, and the lack of date.
But the size is near perfect at 40.9mm imo. Wish they had reduced it down to 40mm thereabout. Watch is abit boring cos no sapphire caseback. Rotor abit over-active. Didnt test it for accuracy.

I like the fact that the AR coating doesnt scratch easily and the watch dial layout is neat.

Portuguese automatic, might be abit too thick for cuffs nowadays. No good for small wrists with its dial size because its a dress watch afterall. The watch should not draw attention from the wearer.

Watch layout is abit spacious

Didnt test the watch for accuracy. has deployment buckle but it isnt activated by a push clasp system.

I personally dont test automatic watches for accuracy since its not quartz.
Only checked to nearest minute.

Chris bro's view is rather accurate especially on the size of portuguese auto. Not so ideal for a dress watch. However, after wearing the chrono for some time, I believe most yearn for a more attention seeking piece. Big, in-house and elaborate, like Panerais and APs.

PS: All portuguese chrono comes with a deployment clasp now.

Accurate, as in you won't be able to get it earlier than the stated date.

as far as i know the Sinn has the superior movement and is more of an all-rounder watch. do note that for the THG UOB promo it only comes with rubber strap.. the bracelet can be bought from THG at a hefty $500.. the visodate is much cheaper.. 600ish? and is the dressier of the two.. it really depends on your needs. you cant go wrong with either. (maybe you should just get both!)

tks bro, u read my mind, dunno which to get, so perhaps get two :s13:

tks to bros tt32003 & flame2000 for ur advice

will go thg to put on the sinn, still trying to find out from the threads where to get the visodate, appreciate if any bros can pm me :D

cheers!

imho, i find the stowa flieger, with logo and date more sexier than the sinn556.

Agreed! Either with logo and date, or go the historical way with no logo no date.

If only the promo price of sinn556 was with bracelet..... :s13:

Yesterday just placed an order for the sinn556. Any idea where to get good and decent price leather strap or bracelet?

Just tried the visodate, the lug? seems to make the watch bigger and almost at the edges of my 6" wrists and it looks big. Seems that I've to go and try the sinn 556.
