hello watch experts here, my fiancee will be going to Switzerland next mth.. Geneva to be exact. She wants to buy a nice classic watch, i recommended her Cartier so she is checking out over there.

Budget : 6-8k?
Automatic
Leather

Any brands and model? just throw it in to me.. :D

prices in switzerland are not cheap, in fact one of the highest in europe, and may be higher than SG prices. better to do her homework by visiting ADs locally or researching on watch forums...

my recommendation will be a nice JLC reverso :)

Thanks for the suggestion. Not so keen as those have large numbers on the bezel that I do not like. I find Aqua Terra is on the dressy side. Not too keen on the brand as well. Prefer something uncommon but a watch manufacture no less.
If I do pick up an Omega eventually, it will likely be a Speedmaster.

Thanks for the suggestion. Not too keen on this brand. Maybe if I'm on a tight budget.

Prefer brand new. Reverso is too dressy. Don't like Panerai designs. IWC is a bit common. Maybe later down the road.
I refused to read your suggestion on stretching budgets on those nice pieces. The last time someone suggested something out of my initial budget but really nice, I ended up buying one at almost double my initial budget. Cannot bust budget again.:s13:
But many thanks for the suggestions!

So u dont want bezel watches ? N also don't want common brands?

For the base model, i heard of folks getting it at the lower than 8k in europe. Not sure about sg prices.

Reverso does come in quartz iirc , 7k for quartz is costly

Mech it's good but entry level reverso is small for many ppl liking

Correct. Reproduce below my earlier post on what that ideal watch is like:

1. net price around S$6-7K
2. versatile - will go with both typical office wear and casual wear
3. less popular/common brand is HIGHLY PREFERED
4. designs similar to Rolex/Tudor etc with large numbers on the bezel are out
5. online purchase is out - must be able to view/try locally
6. WR is not important - just wetness from washng hands/rain only
7. fashion brands are out
8. automatic

A couple more:
9. new. don't want pre-owned
10. don't care about resale value. Buying it to use, not buying with a view to selling.

Omega Speedmaster Professional. All the ticks, except for no.3, as omega is quite popular.

correct, 7K+ sgd. Its the one with no sub sec dial. and back is non see through. I asked when i made my reservation for my ap. thats why i know. haha!
Ah ha! Let me research a bit more on the reverso. I'm actually more inclined towards the squadro although purists may disagree that the DNA of the original reverso is kind of lost here.

Good suggestion, just to add on my personal choice is to get the original one 3570.70 simply that it's the original handwindingmoon watch (well movement has changed though).

I've crossed out Omega because it is too popular. But if I do get one sometime down the road, it will be something from the Speedmaster series. Don't like the Seamaster because of the bezel.

Sounds like my watch...
:D

Your watch may have a possible companion! Want to share what it is? :)

Like that I really scratch head lol

Yup. I know. I'm still scratching too.

Oh one more requirement: must have see-thru case back!:s12:

those who are donning a jlc reverso, is it true that it's too classy to wear jeans and tshirt/polo with it?

Actually, if you guys are considering JLC at around the 'lower end
' Reverso price point, why not consider the Ultra Thin Moon 39? Its not as iconic as the Reverso but it is a beauty and even more beautiful in person:

I would have bought this if I was crazy enough to fork out another $2k+. I got the Master Control instead. Everytime I see this watch, there is a slight tinge of regret not buying it. Or maybe I should be grateful I was not crazy enough to buy it!
