hey guys, just got my first automatic watch and wanted to ask some questions about it.

1) does the watch always stop in less than 24 hrs and I have to give it a few shakes to wind the watch?

2) and is it normal for my watch to stop and set it every time i want to wear it? (after 24 hr or so)

It depends on the power reserve of the watch. Some watches have power reserves of up to 7-8 days when charged fully. Perhaps you can google for the power reserve of your model?

It depends on the power reserve of the watch. Some watches have power reserves of up to 7-8 days when charged fully. Perhaps you can google for the power reserve of your model?

hi thanks for the prompt reply. i got the orient automatic but after a day of wearing, the next 2 day the watch stop and needs a few shake to start running. is this normal?

then after a few shakes, the watch stops running at night. quite troublesome for an automatic.

Correct. Reproduce below my earlier post on what that ideal watch is like:

1. net price around S$6-7K
2. versatile - will go with both typical office wear and casual wear
3. less popular/common brand is HIGHLY PREFERED
4. designs similar to Rolex/Tudor etc with large numbers on the bezel are out
5. online purchase is out - must be able to view/try locally
6. WR is not important - just wetness from washng hands/rain only
7. fashion brands are out
8. automatic

A couple more:
9. new. don't want pre-owned
10. don't care about resale value. Buying it to use, not buying with a view to selling.

If you want something different, you might want to check out the offerings of Red Army Watches. I think their Itay Noy and Alexander Shorokhoff watches look very good. You can try them in store. These watches would certainly meet your criteria except maybe for the price (you'll get change ).

Automatic watches typically have power reserves of around 40-50 hours. What this means is that after the watch is fully "charged" (fully wound), you can leave it motionless say in your drawer and it will run for 40-50 hours before stopping (don't forget to count the night). Of course if you use your watch, you would be continually topping up its power reserve to its maximum.

So doing your maths, assuming your watch is fully wound and you leave it in your drawer at 6pm on day 1, do not touch it at all on day 2 and only use it again at 9am on day 3, 39 hours would have lapsed and your watch would probably still be working (depending on its power reserve capacity) but probably reaching the end. And that is assuming it had been fully wound on day 1 before you had put your watch away.

When you pick up your dead watch and start swinging it, it will start-up again but you need to wear it (ie: move it around) for a period of time before the watch will be fully wound. Otherwise, you won't achieve your 40-50 hours of power reserve.

If you do not use your watch on a regular basis, its Automatic feature does not confer much additional benefit over a manual wind as you would have to set the time whenever you use it. That is unless you get an Automatic watch with a super duper long power reserve (and pay through your nose for it). An alternative of course is to get a watch winder for your Automatic.

RSC 600 for leather and buckle. but one warning...even my ad told me....spoil quite easily...the leather cui...thin too

The Espada and Striking 10 are indeed great watches - but the former is a bit too dressy and the latter is out of my budget, unfortunately. Busted my budget on my last watch and the FC won't take too kindly to another unbalanced household budget

one of the similar colour scheme heritage El Primero reissue have the 38mm option iirc, splendid for smaller wrists

i would still think Espada as sporty, Ultra Thins would be their dressier pieces imo. the blue version is sweeeee

Actually, if you guys are considering JLC at around the 'lower end
' Reverso price point, why not consider the Ultra Thin Moon 39? Its not as iconic as the Reverso but it is a beauty and even more beautiful in person:

I would have bought this if I was crazy enough to fork out another $2k+. I got the Master Control instead. Everytime I see this watch, there is a slight tinge of regret not buying it. Or maybe I should be grateful I was not crazy enough to buy it!

Mind saying the RRP of this moonphase?
