Ya and when I say I thinking of buying a TF, nb all give same comment say that money rather buy rolex.

If you like TF, go get it. No point listening to others cos ultimately you're the one wearing it. As I've said before, the best watch is the one that you wear the most often. If you prefer a TF over a Rolex, even if you buy a Rolex, you'll still not be happy and yearn for a TF.

One of the good thing about Rolex is its resale value. But if you have no intention to sell it, the resale value doesn't matter much. With a good resale value also means that a watch, especially if you're buying secondhand, has lesser room for price negotiation.

How long to keep ur automatic watch before u spend for servicing. 2yrs or more? Recently, I went to swatch service center to service my tissot and ask the customer service abt the price of full service automatic watch for Hamilton. She told me the full service which is cost me 400++.. is tat the normal price for other brands auto watch?

Unless you really like the watch a lot, I wouldn't bother.

How about s$120 service a watch that cost 500++?

Aiyah. Sell to secondhand shop confirm price no good lah but your example is exactly why I'm not so caught up on resale value. A valuable watch today may be less valuable tomorrow if the market changes taste. Hence I find it better to buy a watch I like than to worry about resale value.

I subscribe to the thinking that if it ain't broken, don't fix it so I don't service (or repair) it till there's something wrong with it.

My guess is that your warranty is over? You can bring it to shops outside to service. It'll be cheaper.

Lol sell shops not good then even stowa, tissot, Hamilton on forums has resale value.

Many ppl don't treat their watches like a car.
Car over 70k must take car watch only 1-10k no need to care so much.

Ppl should send in for periodical service but ppl just don't.
Badly broke just new one. Which is why not may vintage watch around in good condition.

Buy used watch shops also don't care to service it

I don't service my watches until I'm uncomfortable with some aspect of the watch (it doesn't have to stop working per se) like the winding mechanism not winding smoothly, or when it doesn't keep time accurately, or when I see it getting dirty. Otherwise, I don't really bother.

Well, that's more justifiable than one that costs $70 and servicing is nearly double its cost.

Each service probably means the watch has been with you for a good number of years already. If you like it, get it serviced. If you don't, get it flipped.

servicing of mechanical watches i am of the opinion to do it at close to the manufacturer's recommended intervals and not wait till it stops working. Sometimes if you wait till it breaks down will cost more to repair and service rather than regular servicing to clean, lubricate the movement etc and check for water resistance.

Of course if the watch is too cheap then forget it la, just toss and buy another.

Official service centre tend to over-charge for servicing and repairs, but they do give warranty of 1-2 years after a complete servicing. If your Tissot has a common ETA movement, non-chronograph then i think many "small shop" watch technicians can service it for less.

JW service for like ~$100
I'm fact normal cleaning oiling in house movt also can go there to service.

Umm JW quoted me 600 for servicing my chronograph watch....not inclusive of any replacement parts if needed..and a 4-6 months turn around time
