it's really nice. far better than those with strange colour combinations.

me too... i still feel that G-shock looks best in their tradition shades of Black, grey, Red.

Baby-G i am more familiar with fancy fancy colours

Actually i agree to what your uncle says, i bought myself a TH in Swiss when i was there 5years ago, it was a quartz and it's my daily beater but till now quite sian of it but don even know can fetch money anot, whereas if you get a Rolex, you probably can sell for about 80% of the value you got for, so if you want to winwin, get a good second hand Rolex you probably wont lose much.

If you want to make money, get those limited edition watch, like Panerai those 300/400 pieces type, those will appreciate over time. It all really depends on the popularity of the brands, Panerai and Rolex no problem, it's the most popular brands around. Weekend go walk around ion u will know how many people inside Panerai and Rolex :)

guys... just wanna have your thoughts about this conversation I had with my uncle last night.

My uncle is travelling to Switzerland and France this December and he asked me if I wanna get anything from there. I told him to help me look at watches. then he asked Rolex?

I said no. Tag heuer... then my uncle responded ohh... why TH?
I told him, its my favourite brand and always dream to get one. but of course, I would get a rolex but more for keepsake. TH is more of a practical dailybeater.

then my uncle suggested me to keep the money, save up a couple of thousands more and hoot a Rolex first. Get that rolex and then go for a TH.

my uncle's reasoning is that Rolex has a higher resale value compared to TH, be it vintage or a regular rolex.

his analogy actually got me thinking... because for Rolex I have always been thinking of getting either of these two models:

Submariner date or Datejust II

I don't know about Rollies but for Pams... I really doubt that you can find a Pam that will appreciate with time. The ones that do appreciate, are the ones that are already commanding sky high prices, ie: the Pre-V and the vintage Pams. Pams are just too common now.

Honestly, buy a watch that you love and not something that you are thinking of selling it off later. Enjoy your watch, not "hold it" for someone else! Unless you are talking about a PP. :s13:

Haha. Yeah its like those car owners who pay a premium for the finest leather in the their cars. They drive the cars with the plastic cover over the leather seats. And they remove the plastic seats only when they want to sell the car! Like what Azrielsc said, buy and wear (not keep in the drawer/box) what you like. The resale value does not matter. 99.99% of watches out there won't make you money anyway.

I'm always puzzled by this "Rolex for Resale" story. It's not exactly a ringing endorsement to say that the best thing about something is that it is easy to get rid of it!

I always thought singapore not in range of any radio wave stations?

shld have cos once its out of the gshock box, it turns to the local timing, even the date automatically. im quite surprised actually, its my first shocky. when it goes into dark places like the watch case or night time or theres no sunlight for a quite while then it will go to sleep mode.

Panerai bronzo those that bought on retail all earn money Liao, now second hand market all selling twice to nearly triple the retail price.

Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. :) I would love to get the 382 Bronzo, or the 127 Fiddy or... the list is endless but with the influx of more "same same but different" Pams, choosing one that will appreciate in the future is like finding one in a haystack! :)

I bought my 2nd hand 219 Destro from a great guy off sg-roc forum. There are other great deals there too. I am always surfing there to see what takes my fancy. At the moment, there is a DLCed Pam 000 being advertised by Ant at S$5.5k. This is something that I really would like to get as a tool watch but argh, my piggybank ain't big enough for that outlay. :( Classic base Pam 000 with a DLC coating. Drool.

Another place is swx.com.sg but no experience there.

I saw 1 $40k PAM, rose gold with blue face in Ion, 400pieces edition ;) Not sure will appreciate anot haha.

But most of the mass market PAM can get about 3k to 6k while new one cost 8k to 12k.

YES! Get the PAM000! that is the base PAM, 1 year only a few is pass to each boutique worldwide. Although not limited edition but it should hold off well, a new one will cost you 6k+ but it's limited in production number per year, it holds well.

It's the most simple PAM, with only Minutes and Hour and a factory produced movement and that's why bring down the price but simplicity sometimes is beauty ;)

Sure... those are really expensive but will they guarantee an appreciation in the years to come? Maybe, but who, except for the well-heeled, to take the plunge and see? :) And if there are any out there now at a "reasonable" price?

S$3k for a 2nd hand Pam? I have not seen yet... but S$4k+ for a base Radiomir or a base Luminor, yes, there are gems that appear once in a while. Saw a few on sg-roc!

Good luck!
