Fifty fathoms is a dive watch so they cannot compromise on the water resistance. Am assuming that's the reason.

Watches with multiple complications will invariably have cluttered-looking dials. Indeed it is a challenge for watch makers not just in the technical (movement) aspect but also design (presentation of dial) when it comes to complicated watches.

To me, this is an excellent example of a balanced and aesthetically pleasing complicated dial.
