May not be getting a watch for my wife after all.
"You buy watches for others because you yourself like watches. I'd rather have another nice bag."
Going to Chanel later.

that sounded something like what my gf said to me.![]()
can consider hermes birkin & hermes kelly if they're not in her collection yet.
unless she's a 2.55 fan in which case, complete the collection in all 5 sizes.
ps. be thankful she's not diamond crazy. diamonds are the most useless luxury. all show and no go. with near zero residual value.
what can i say about this special edition IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calender?
"big" (dia:46mm/ht:16mm), "gaudy:", "busy-busy dial", "cartoony small dial red-arrowhead hands".
the only saving grace is perhaps the diamond crown and the 7 days power reserve.
an opinion on iwc: IWC Watches - AskMen
also, it's from a company that charges a relatively high premium while using eta movements in their products vis-a-vis their brand image/quality.

nothing against eta movements. they're good & reliable and likely to become scarcer in the future for those not affliated to them.
but an eta movement is an eta movement, modified or not. it's the same movement that powers a tissot - tudor black bay chioness not withstanding.
nothing against cheap & affordable. in fact, from a value for money perspective, seiko 5s are fantastic value for money.
instead may i commend to you the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calender...
"right dress watch sized" (dia:39mm/ht:9.2mm), "oozes class & elegence", "easy to read dial", "expansive sweep from a central seconds hand that animates a watch", from a watchmaking house with a storied history & venerable reputation that manufactures its own movements & most of their parts inhouse, and who supplies to top tier brands like Van Cleef & Arpels for eg.
at a fraction of the price of other perpetual calenders.
that THAT'S value for money!

IMHO, for jlc, only the reverso is worth getting. Most iconic and timeless. Buy watches buy their signatures. That's value for money.

How much is the jlc perpetual cal btw?
If I buy preowned AP, where in Singapore can I authenticate it?
Thanks

JLC do not have much missteps in terms of their dress watches, all their dressier series are superb watches, for their sports watches... there's some arguments there.
I find quite abit of guys do not like square/rectangular shaped watches, while women is more receptive.
Most of the reversos i have seen are on women...
I find the squadras look really good on guys...
And people who say such things about IWC are simply brand bashers and are totally clueless about IWC's contribution in the history of watchmaking, in particular with their perpetual calendars. Go google Kurt Klaus for heaven's sake.

well, perhaps they haven't been properly introduced to cartier classics, be it the santos or the tank.
who can resist the charm of the cartier tank mc skeleton?

lol, why so butt hurt?
hey look, i know mercedes benz sl63 amg uses an iwc clock in its dashboard, but iwc is really a wannabe brand that overcharges for casing eta movements.
and jaeger lecoultre's master ultra thin perpetual is superior to iwc's portuguese perpetual calender (be it the regular version or their limited little prince edition) from an aesthetic, design and manufacture pov as a few of gentlemen here agrees.
look pal, there're plenty of venerable, once proud, independent brands that are reduced to casing eta movements like longines, rado, tissot, etc.
nothing against eta movements. they're good & reliable.
but when you start charging a huge premium for casing eta movements while trying to fool the less discerning into thinking that you're a higher tier luxury watch brand than you really are, then it's only right to call you out for being less than honest.
that's where jaeger lecoultre, piaget, heck even rolex have pride of place as true watchmakers who design and manufacture their own watch movements.
