Can anyone recommend me a watch within $500.

Not those leather kind but stainless steel silver kind. Was looking at citizen but not sure if it could last.

seiko or orient. plenty of designs to choose from. i'm sure there's one that appeals to you.

inhouse movements. quality built to perform, though movement not decorated, plain & utilitarian. but gets the job done - admirably.

Hi guys, I've been struggling to decide which of these watches to get for quite a while now and would like to hear your opinions.

watch3s.jpg

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Automatic Ref 42042

ss2.jpg

Jaegar-LeCoultre Master Calendar

My preference is to get a used watch, so the Master Calendar is about 1-2k more expensive than the Overseas Automatic. I'm planning to use it as my staple watch, in rotation with a Solvil et Titus my wife got me when I first started work. Nothing can beat its sentimental value. :D What do you guys recommend?

I saw a LNIB Master Calendar piece at SG-ROC asking for $10k.

Generally... citizen can last yrs without servicing.
And if you are wearing it everyday... wear and tear to watch parts is normal

For $500 and affordable automatic watches
MR. G-SHOCK. (Metal casing. Metal bracelet.)
Seiko n Seiko 5
Orient
Arbutus NY
Kenneth Cole

saw the Ball DeepQuest at Changi airport DFS... on top of the 25%, as it was duty free could take away another 7%, effectively about 30% off RRP... worth to hoot?

Sounds like a good deal after all the authorised dealers usually give only about 25% discount

I second Henabi's suggestion of an Orient. They're really good value for money. Pretty good quality and accuracy and is within your budget.

Bought my 16610 sub w/o trying but hard to go wrong with a black sub unless wrist is too small or large, and iwc portuguese chrono was a gift. Lucky both fit very well hehe

I can't imagine how big the person must be for the Sub to look too small :s13: but you're hard, it's hard to go wrong with a beauty like the Sub

Nice.. me looking to get the Sub for its classic and timeless design. But somehow, I prefer the one which you have.. the lugs and crown protector design seems to be a little more proportionate.

Might get a pre owned one.. haha :o

Personally, I feel that pre-own is the way to go cos someone already take the "new depreciation". My watches are mainly pre-own cos my thinking is that for the price of one new, I can potentially buy two used ones. For Rolex, it's even better if you don't mind the older pinhole versions cos they're even cheaper

I can't really remember but I tried a VC overseas since it was next to the PP boutique.....and it just did not look good (to put it really badly, it looked cheap).

you really gotta try it out to know. like the recent explorer 1 craze that's happening in this thread - all the pics look so good. when I tried it on my hand it was disappointing for me. Didn't look as good as I expected, and I am just lacking something to pull it off. Same goes for ALS. And the 116520.

don't buy without trying. it is the ultimate test.

Excellent advice.

On the Explorer craze, I remember some time back when I was crazy over the Explorer, tried it a couple of times in shops but was a little underwhelmed. Some time later, I tried it again and liked how it look. Bought it and never regretted the decision. I think our taste changes with age. Or I'm just getting old :s13:

Yes our taste do change with time and age.

I used to hate rolex but now I can better understand and appreciate them. Or probably its the brand ***** in me.

Kee kee same here. The Bros here know I was looking at 3 watches at first : Sub ND, Explorer 1 & omega SMP moon watch.

Preferred to get rolex first. So compared the sub and explorer, the exp 1 fitted/sync better on my wrist. Most would favor the sub, even SAs kept pushing it. But it's when you try that it totally convinces what the right choice is. ;):)

Cheers to our explorers! An understated beauty :D

Good discount. The max you can get from AD is about 25%. May I know which Changi retailer is this?

thanks bro... just saying what i feel...

sometimes, got $$ also doesn't mean will or must spend it on watches one mah.. some ppl save diligently on a monthly basis for a "dream watch"..

then when they have saved enough for it, they wonder if it's now worthwhile to spend it all on a watch... :o

Think maybe I'll be like that.. :(
