As above, I propose our 1st gathering to be on 29 Mar, Sat afternoon. Probably 1pm-ish till late noon so evening onwards can accompany family, gf, friends, etc.

Venue: Open to suggestions. Somewhere affordable, comfortable, indoors where we can meet away from prying eyes.

Objective: To put a face to our nicks/facilitate watch discussion/share lobangs on watches or otherwise/hands holding, networking, etc.

Anyone in this thread is invited and encouraged to join, regardless what kind of watch you are wearing. I think we generally don't ostracize the brand, type, etc.

Will start a new thread to facilitate discussions once the gathering is confirmed with a healthy number of participants so it doesn't get overwhelmed by the crazy number of posts update daily.

Add your nicks to your list if you are able to make it.

2. Henabi

As of right now, nothing for me :D

True also, but as usual lah, when brands do not have history to back them up they will use design, looks, features and functions, etc to back their watches so as to provide as much value as they can to buyers. Good for us too. :D

certain mechanical watch types/complications have always been priced beyond the reach of many, eg perpetual calender, minute repeaters, tourbillions.

part of the reason is/was the technical challenge/difficulty/intricacies in crafting/realizing a design that performs flawlessly and reliably.

the watchmakers then go on to embellish & decorate their movements elaborately by hand to justify high prices.

thus, it creates dissonance when a perpetual calender is offered relatively cheaply/affordably.

watches of this tier is all about brand perception & value proposition.

the jaeger-lecoultre master ultra thin perpetual calender which was the cheapest perpetual before the mont blanc perpetual came out already had detractors bemoaning that it doesn't have the level of pretty finish compared to patek and lange, for eg.

for me the jlc mut pc is perfect for those who may baulk at the huge jump in prices for finely decorated movements. it hails from a venerable watchmaker that does all its own movements, and it has a pleasant, well-proportioned dial in a perfect case size.

on the other hand, the mb pc doesn't appeal to me at all from a brand perspective as being appropriate for a perpetual calender. that it crams it subdials so close to the centre as to make it visually unappealing already seals its doom, as far as i'm concerned, no matter how affordable it is priced.

folks may feel free to disagreed.

sorry boys!

given my trenchant anti-establishment posting record in hwz, i'd rather not put a face to my nick. hope you folks can understand.

but rest assured i'm with you guys in spirit during any gathering. just post your gathering photos for ol' unker teentitan01, can? thanks!

cheers!

Perhaps I should clarify my comments were referring to watches in general and not specifically at perpetual calendars.

But yes the MB PC doesn't appeal to me both as a brand or as a watch. I only like the JLC PC ;)

Actually I think its more your own comfort level and what kind of dressing you pair your watch with. I have a very small wrist - 6.5 inches and I am now used to wearing 44mm watches. Anything below 42mm I will feel its too small.

However, I also have larger watches which I must admit, is worn to attract attention and its also a great conversation piece, like this 57.7mm piece -

The watch also ticks pretty loud ... like a bomb waiting to go off!

However, in casual dressing, I feel quite confident wearing this.

:D

sorry i feel the watch looks too big plus the oversized crown.. look like a clown watch:o

Is this considered a dress watch? Will it look weird as a daily beater? Like wearing with short sleeve t shirt?

My agenda
1) will bring snacks from Japan to share. Tokyo banana is out - short shelf life.
2) those of you who promised to hold my hand better make true your promise. LOL
3) will bring most of my watches as well as magazines and stuff.

Even if the cafe does not chase us out because of (1), they probably will due to (2).

I have to admit that I don't really know how to appreciate Nomos's design. It's not like its ugly or anything but just not really my kind of thing.

How boring it'd be if everybody likes the same thing right.. :)

I personally really like the face/dial design, only thing I don't really like is the case and lug shape.. Even the leather strap they use is apparently very good, better than alligator!

Actually quite long. I always feel it took its design cues from RM which came out just a while bigger
