I assume you are intending to get from Japan. Yes Jack road is reputable grey dealer. If you are using a credit card there may be charges involved, 3% iirc. Can't remember if it applies to JR. Email them will be safer, they do understand and will reply in english.

Grey means warranty won't be honoured by Rolex here if I were to send for servicing? Yup, it was Jack road cause just checking the website for fun.

Grey sets doesn't mean warranty not honoured by Rolex. From what i know, As long as the warranty is endorsed by a AD (be it overseas or local), Rolex will honour it. Warranty is international.

Sharing something a local AD told me. Whether part of sales pitch or not is your own judgement:

In addition to warranty card, Rolex will ask to see your receipt if it indicates an overseas piece. Apparently only RSC Singapore does that. Elsewhere the warranty card is adequate and won't ask u for receipt as well.

According to him, while they will honour warranty regardless, apparently if you cannot/did not produce the receipt or if it indicates you bought grey from non-AD, they will chut pattern and slower service and delays e.g. citing a part is not available and need to order and wait.

I am skeptical but also does not sound unreasonable.. Anyone with experience to verify?

thought of a lame joke.

Since all Rolex watches are oyster-cased, do we call those Rolex watches with blue dials - "Blue Oyster"?

:s22::s22::s22::s13:

for those too young to know - blue oyster bar is a gay bar in one of the instalments of "police academy" movie. :s12:

What a coincidence, channel 5 was showing police academy 1 for the 167th time recently (in 2014). I was channel surfing and caught the blue oyster part hahaha.

It makes no sense to me to do that. It's either they honour the warranty or they don't, and be consistent about it. Why ruin their reputation by being selective about who gets faster/slower service just because its bought elsewhere?
If its real and warranty is valid, they should service it regardless and with the same level of standard and turnaround time. That is what a premium brand should be.

haha i think so too and frankly even if it's true, price is still most important to me. Furthermore, rolexes are tough pieces that don't usually conk off in the 1st 2 years so not a concern to me.

I have some thoughts it could be legit only because he mentioned this was a recent practice (i.e. getting the receipt for overseas pieces) and only by RSC Singapore with reason being Singapore is the regional SEA HQ?! (in whatever scheme of things in the Rolex world), grey is fairly big in Singapore and this practice is part of their efforts tracing grey sources.

The diff service standard part I too cannot buy that..

So essentially what is one main difference between AD and grey? Both honour warranty, both come with papers right?

The price and whatever goodies your SA gives you lor

Like that a reputable grey dealer is also almost the same as a AD, understand some would go AD to have the assurance as compared to a grey market dealer but if the grey is highly reputable and trusted, why not?

A few factors for me

If the price diff is very large then yes. With replicas rampantly going around I wouldnt risk it. Its a lot of money at risk here. Also, if there is verification services easily available.

My example: for my 5712, the AD quoted me just 10% higher than grey, and I read that to verify a PP takes a month-long round trip to their HQ in swiss. The choice was obvious for me.

But for rolex i dont mind. Cos rsc can do it within a day.

I think if your watch is very complicated, it'll be safer going with AD. But if it's not too complicated, maybe can consider I guess.

Now I need some assurance this is NOT going to happen at the meet up.

jackroad don't have credit card charges; stated on their front page. but according to triste, kamekichi gives better prices (at least for rolex) but charges for CC usage.

That depends, my 114060 was bought from housekihiroba cause it was cheaper than either of those 2.

nope i'm a chinese. personally got b&r because the other brands with watches in the price range e.g. ball, baume & mercier, tag heuer and lower end omegas doesnt really suit my style and age. Plus the dial on this particular model is just too beautiful for me to resist.

i'm curious too, why the question? I personally dont care about anything else as long as the watch is what suits me best and makes me happy. :)

Hmm, i have actually seen quite a variety of races wear b&r tho. So a bit curious on this stereotyping of the brand.

the only time i see b&r worn was by malays. thus the question to see whether is that a trend or something. i used to ask my friends 2 questions. bmw or mercs and tag heuer or rolex. and almost completely most chinese that i know will reply mercs and rolex whereas the malays will choose bmw and tag heuer which i found very interesting.

Generally speaking, the higher the price of watch and the more inconvenient or complicated it is to authenticate it, then get from AD safer. It's all about a piece of mind.

New here just want to share my 5 cents worth.
I believe it's the process of buying from an AD that differs. The experience. For me and many I believe it's a big ticket item.
I just bought the submariner last month for my birthday, my 2nd rolex both from ADs here.
Comparing the price difference, it works out to only about 500 bucks discount from a grey dealer. ( my friend is the SA )
Don't pm me for hook ups lol, a regular here should be able to get you more
