just noticed the small print "st moritz" that piqued my interest

of course this is a popular swiss resort for the rich, and did some light surfing and this is a very interesting model indeed - a limited edition st moritz de ville.

incidentally omega also has a boutique there - alongside a slew of high end brands serving the high-net-worth visitors to st moritz while they recover from their skiing runs.

back to the watch - from my light reading it uses an early version co-axial, so its a bona fide in house movement, swiss designed. for purists this is a curiousity that would just grow over time.

this is the limited edition version too, right?

my sense of pricing for these kind of watches is that its established by the used watch stores. you get the odd pricing on the forum by a private seller that may just be out of whack, but it will be snapped up quickly. but its all about chasing limited stocks so you need to make a judgement call

if you're buying for yourself i think this is a very interesting find. not like a mass-luxury popular piece. but a truly unique specimen. if you're concerned about resale then you need to understand the purist market is but a fraction of the entire market, but if you're patient enough these are the type of watches that truly consistently hold their value if you can find the right buyer.

also with short supply of unique movements these stand a chance of appreciation due to the very limited supply. e.g. if Omega starts a new mainstream St Moritz range.

finally its an Omega so you won't have to worry 20-30 years down the road as its a big company and well known to keep parts even for their vintage models.

But then, i was reading around and they said that the movement of this watch is not good, have a lot of problems. Leather strap when spoilt will cost 500 bucks to replace. Hence, im still thinking. Besides, even though Im buying for myself to wear, but then, (2nd hand piece) does not come with box or papers, just the watch. So im still thinking about it.

Fellow forumer mentioned that I could get more bang for my buck for that, hence i guess i'll continue looking around.

I kind of like (round) watches, with the 3 buttons on the side for the stopwatches etc, and well looks sporty or classy like that one. Any recommendations?? haha actually I just started working not too long ago, looking for something to wear for the next 20 years lol

that quote about the movement being inferior is a myth methinks. a lot of folks speculate that because the latest coaxial movement 9300 claims advantages over its predecessors. but i have yet to hear the older callibre planet oceans (before the current gen) break down.

no one has the numbers to prove it except omega, but of course they won't deny or confirm any rumours - it helps sell more new watches.

the contradictory bit is that if they did release inferior movements, then its a sign of a very poor craftsmanship.

i personally don't think thats possible, if anything the new movements are probably cheaper to produce (and more accurate)

i won't worry about the straps. original jaeger la coutre reverso 18mm strap for costs $450 - fabric, non leather too. but you can get better for much less with more colours and materials.

round + many buttons = lots of watches

maybe keep surfing and honing your tastes by surfing the web. maybe start here.

and of course you can't go wrong with a rollie (rolex) or speedy (speedmaster). when in doubt - buy used !
