Just hooted this earlier this evening. My first automatic bought over the counter. The SE was quite helpful in explaining the maintenance dos and don'ts..... never knew that date shouldn't be adjusted between 8pm-2am for automatic watches....
A quick google search indicates that sending a automatic watch for maintenance is recommended every 2 years for it to last a long time. Is there any truth in this?

From my many months of reading watches... not really true. Standard one are usually every 5 years. But even after 5 years, you can consider not sending for maintenance if your watch didn't lose seconds dramatically.

Not all automatic watches. Rolex confirm dun need change date between 7pm to 2am

I'm waiting for enlistment too~ if there is still quite some time before enlistment, then I'll say just go for it haha! Can wear during the long period b4 enlistment..

It's a watch, not car... Even car some ppl say can go double the recommended mileage.
Car broke expensive to fix, watch eta parts easy to find and not expensive compared to car.

Most ppl don't swim wearing their expensive watch anyway.

The manual should indicate all these info, don't read google. 1st seeing every 2 yrs service. Every year check on gasket yes, service usually longer. Where did u come across on google searches?

Use common sense, it's mechanical parts and oil.. U need it to run smoothly without problems. Maybe I too young played any toys running on spring? Your mum old sewing machine etc... Well ppl argue it's air tight so different, those recommendation just out for our money

if you use your watch daily it will wear more since its mechanical. so those are just guidelines. with respect to oil clumping when automatic watches are not in use, i think this happens mostly in cold weather and not so much here.
