how do you pam owners differientate between real pams and those homage/replica pams? i believe most of you know that there are those marina militares selling at about $200 in various forums..

1. Homages like MM don't state Panerai on the dial.
2. Panerais don't sell for $200.
3. Replicas is a whole different story altogether.
4. If you are buying pre-owned you buy the seller.
5. Always authenticate the watch whenever possible.

If I am not wrong, please correct me if I am though, Homages would not use the copyrighted "Panerai" brand.

As for 2nd hand Pam, you should be looking at the whole package, rather than just the watch itself. You have to check if the movement sticker/warranty cards or books/sticker on the cardboard outer box (if available) are intact and reflect the same serial numbers.

When you look at replicas, you may be able to tell that the finishing of the case and the movement (if it is a display caseback) are not as crisp and sharp and sometimes, the movement can have overly elaborate engravings, like this:

You got to do your research if you are venturing into the 2nd hand market. Or you can purchase from reputable 2nd hand watch shops.

I got it brand new leh. U mean it looked wore. Please tell me how to tell so that I can go back to Ad and make noise that they sold me a second hand watch.

I think it's just the photos you've taken, the crystal looks smudge with fingerprint etc.

It's not hard to differentiate a LNIB and BNIB, just scrutinize all over, a BNIB should be spanking new!

But how to differentiate if ppl is wearing pam is a another story. Haha.

I use to own one marina militare 024 when I was younger. Haha. Very different feel and weight and finishing.

This is why i only wear my pams in cooler months. Otherwise too loose, the crownguard will hurt my wrist.

In aircon environment it's ok to wear tighter but when outside and it starts to sweat. Eeks!

Get a Destro and wear on your left wrist! Or a normal Pam and wear on your right wrist! The crown guard will not dig into the back of your hands then!

I suspect there are very few people that are very particular about the lume brightness between a sandwich & a painted dial that they would return it and choose the other.

For me, it is just aesthetics and it is one of my lower priorities when selecting a Pam. And at the moment, it seems like all my Pams in my "collection" are sandwich dials... *face palm*

Although I kinda miss the painted 000 dial. If I sell my 388 I may eventually buy a 183 as a Radiomir replacement...

Damn fickle minded, I know.

Today weather darn hot! Running errands and my wrist alr sweating under my pam. Today have to wear one buckle hole looser but looks very sloppy!

What you guys think? Pam on thick leather strap looking loose.

That's one of the reasons why I have more straps, so can rotate them. The quick change system on the 233 also facilitates that.

Some people also get the "fake screw" spring bars for Panerai so they can do the same for models without the quick change system.

Actually the older base Pams used to have this "panerai" engraving on the movement, discon from G series onwards IIRC

Yes, the quick-change system is just plain awesome! Spring bars are a god-send for Pams without the quick-change system!

Oh, I see... Things I learn about Pams everyday! *Awesome* I just wanted to highlight the crisp engraving of a genuine Pam as compared to replicas' rough engraving.

So can we safely say that as long as the Pam is of a later batch, > G Series, if there are engraving on the movement, it is most likely to be fake?

It is not a definite that it WILL spoil lah. Otherwise, it will be considered a manufacturing defect!!!

It helps to remove the risks of:

1. Stripping the screw threads if the bars are inserted wrongly
2. Preventing the screwdriver head from slipping and scratching the lugs
3. Prevent the bars from loosening and the strap coming off totally
