Hi guys,

I plan to head to Mr Goh for the Seiko Snzh, and at the same time maybe buy a watch for my dad's birthday.

Im looking for something under $200, he doesnt like metal bracelet so im thinking of a simple automatic watch with leather strap. (Hes not the type that like intricate designs)

Any advice? Im an Under grad so dont have that much money to spend

Believe the bros here would reccomend u to get the snzh and change it to a leather or paros strap at Mr Goh. The strap cost abt 18++

how do you pam owners differientate between real pams and those homage/replica pams? i believe most of you know that there are those marina militares selling at about $200 in various forums..

someone has addressed the question of homages, so i'll talk about replicas.

1. buy in house movement. more difficult to "fake", especially the 8 day handwinds...
2. check the stickers match the case number and movement number. you may need a loupe. the stickers are also on the cardboard box that the pear wood case comes in, so a complete "triple boxed" set offers higher credibility.
3. AD certificate, local AD stamp easier to trust and more difficult to fake? may explain why "local AD" is a slight premium to overseas AD.

if unsure, walk away from transaction. or get it authenticated at one of the reputable dealers (about $100?)

But the quick change system will chui after some time right? Screw also quite fast actually. Haha

*scratch head* I thought the 388 is a "replacement" for the 183?

I hardly wear the 388 so i'd prefer a handwind radiomir without date... and keeping it to a simple 183 means i can save $$ for other watches!

Chipping in my 2cents on buying pre-owned, many points already being dished out by other bros at some point or another:

1. Go for a full set to get some comfort. Most of the PAMs being flipped aren't exactly vintages (for PAM I would interpret vintage to be perhaps mid 90s or earlier). Full set with box and papers seem fairly common.

2. U are buying the seller as much as the watch. If you are skeptical, get from pre-owned watch shop rather than an individual seller. These businesses have too much to lose and a reputation to keep, to deliberately sell you a fake. You also know u can return to the shop if anything happens.

3. If the price looks too good to be true, it probably is..

correct me if i am wrong. it might be a very silly question imo. Does it meant that if the panerai dial, doesn't contain the panerai wording, it is most likely not panerai?

some watch brands deliberately remove their watch logos/words from the dial for historical simplicity sake. E.g. The stowa flieger

I heard about this also, there is a notorious case circulating online about how the guy was asked to pay a few k for the new case. His quick change mechanism popped out. There was a guy that popped it back in and it stayed there too. All this got me paranoid about changing my straps. I hope Panerai has a way to just change the mechanism. Where got car tire spoil change the whole car.....

The pam 249/262 california radiomir do not have the panerai logo nor branding on the dial. The case back rim however does state "Officine Panerai"

Brands like Dievas make similar models but it's easy to differentiate between Panerai and lesser models.

Actually you can just drop Panerai an email from their official website and a reply will be sent within 24-48hours. Sometimes, a Panerai representative will call you too.

if you think about it if they can fake the watch, they can also fake the stickers, the boxes... those are easier and less costly to produce.

Finally my super oyster from strapcode reached today! About 8 working days, total paid was like USD$50 with promotion code "WUS2014".

Spent about 45min to change and resize the bracelet with the watch tools from Qoo10.

Extremely happy with the bracelet quality. Initially wanted to get from yobokies but he didn't reply me when I ask him how can I place order...
