It's call power reserve. You don't shake the watch, it might just spoil the movement. You minic daily hand movement. That's why people put their watches in those boxy winders etc. power reserve range from 40 hours for most watches to almost a few days for a couple of luxury watches

I bought this but was quite disappointed with it. Didn't keep time well. I mean to say, if I spend 3 minutes shaking it and leaving it on my table and take it out the next day, it loses time very quickly (sometimes even stops).

I had this notion that a mech watch should be able to run continuously (after shaking it for a good 5 minutes maybe?) for at least 2 days before it stops.

Thanks for the suggestion but none appeals to me.

All 3 of you please let me know what watches you own please?

Thanks for the share but it's not to my liking.

i might be double your age so we should have different tastes in watches :)

lets go back to the movement part - as it affects your experience with the watch.

Usually if you wear your watch for a day and your hands are moving sufficiently it should last you overnight...sometimes not, its mechanical ... enough winding, enough running time.

me i have mostly automatics which i have to set everytime i wear (i only set time not date) a few quartz for days where i don't want to bother

if you are getting this as a "daily beater" automatic should be no problem. but for days where you change watches ... so get one that suits your lifestyle, or you may have to adjust your lifestyle to your watch.

you should scroll back to the top of this thread and go through all the pictures posted...

...also there's a large chunk on modding watches (seiko snzh's) which basically allows you to customize the look which has kinda like a worldwide sub-culture, just to see if that's your thing.

if you're looking at divers there are stronger niche brands like:
COLLECTION
MARANEZ << i have the racha!
The Offical Website of Obris Morgan Timepieces - Pradata
that's got like cult like following (not as many mods but something different...but not as fancy as those you post.

if quartz consider these as well
Citizen eco drive watches
Seiko Solar Diver's Watch

in general these:
Citizen scuba dive watches
Seiko divers watch

if its back to the three that you posted, maybe elaborate why you like those here so its easier to understand what you are looking for.

and if in doubt .. go for the most popular brand/model and BUY USED! so you can "try again" :)

These are the parts that were replaced.
1. rubber to metal shroud
2. gold minutes/hour hands to silver ones
3. seconds hand changed to marinemaster's
4. bezel and insert
5. 007 dial

Getting chrome/silver chapter ring to complete the mod

since you're there - got time to visit the seiko museum?

Visit to Seiko Institute of Horology

Not at all man. Only 2 full days in tokyo and with young kids, the schedule is unpredictable. I only had time to go have a look at some watches (skx007k bracelet here 14,000yen) and the glashutte what panomatic thingy - 2mil yen roughly.

Back in hotel after lunch, bought a new suitcase for all the souvenirs and snacks, and repacking luggage now. Flying back tmr morning. Steam

How about the Orient 300m Saturation Diver?

Nope.

Only for luxury watches? Because someone said to expect that is quite hard?

Movement isn't exactly what I'm looking for. I'd say the points that I have listed are rated higher than movement.

I'm not one to change watches. If I find the 'right' one. I'd stick to it for daily use.

I saw some mods on Seiko snzh's and it's very appealing but I am unsure of the price tag that comes with it.

Definitely not looking at divers / stronger niche brands. I think something tough around 200M should suffice. It's actually a thing where I know if I have a 50m watch, it could 'die' if it goes swimming compared to a 200m. Similarly, durability would be higher on a 200m watch.

Also,
BS-ROLEX-CP-02-1675-H.jpg

if I had the money, PEPSI face is just the ultimate hooker for me.

Which watch has the best lume too?

Watch: $175 (made in Korea) or $185 (made in japan)
Dial: US$45 including shipping to your doorstep
Strap: $12-15 at K2, sky's the limit if you are into custom straps
Fee for changing dial at K2:$25

So you can have one from around $270.

If you get fancy and change the bezel, hands and crystal, you just simply add up the cost.

Possible to make something like this?

that's an automatic mechanical...

i'm not expert at seiko mods, and there are some on here who can help, but here's a nice one, starting with a higher end model (tuna)

sbbn0010.jpg

... one thing for sure, there's a higher chance that a popular seiko diver will keep its value better than the average watch. although its affordable, there are a large number of collectors.

that's the expert!

you can also change the crystal (thicker, domed) and the day/date wheel (colour/Jap "kanji") etc.

also this may help:

if you're DIY kinda guy and a tweaker (is that you and your headfi gear in your avatar) then you will be familiar territory with Seiko mods!
