Just to share something which proves everyone's a brandwhore:

Was ogling at the grand seikos in JEM when a friend n fiance walked in. They were looking for a watch as part of their wedding gifts. So i playfully pointed him to get the grand seiko. "Dont want la...at that price get rolex better" was the reply.

So seiko still jeeds a lot of marketing to get their GS to the masses...if they hv any intention to.

Not everyone is a brand ***** otherwise there'll be no one who buy GS. ;)

I would not expect people who are not in the know to appreciate the GS and the reason for the money it commands.

This afternoon during lunch break.

NICE! Always luv the look of a Panerai but the only thing holding me back is the negative reviews on its movements. How does your piece hold time?[/QUOTE]
What negative reviews? The older base models with non manufacture movements but with seconds hand are COSC certified and run within -4/+6s per day. Their models with manufacture movements are regulated to run at -6/+8s per day. Mine with manufacture movement runs at a very good +2-3s per day now.

So I don't understand why anyone will have negative things to say about Panerai time keeping?

Like Seiko watches but IMHO there are some areas where GS still loses out to a similarly priced Swiss brand? Recently picked up a Rolex Explorer II and Sub ND. I originally wanted to hoot the SGBA029 but when I actually tried it on at the boutique, I was a little let down. While the dial is beautiful, hands are gorgeous, finishing on par with the Rolex, Springdrive movement super cool...A few things swung me to buy the rolex instead- fit of bracelet end link to case which to my eyes appeared not to be as seamless as the Sub, quality of the clasp...the glide lock on the sub is seriously better compared to the thin and flimsy clasp on the GS, the lack of a ceramic bezel, inferior brand power which sadly has to be taken into consideration as marketing costs money which is factored into the price of any product and at this price I expect better brand recognition and thus resale value as well...To me at the price being asked by Seiko for the SBGA029, I expected better?

That being said I would one day (soon) purchase a GS anyway...the siren call of a SD movement is something I cannot resist...just that I am not under any impression that GS are perfect and super value for money...to me they are not..

wrt Dickson watch sale at Knightsbridge,

imo if you want high end tag heuers, eg. Monaco, carrera , grand carrera and silver stone, it's worth taking a look.

The tag heuer offerings are excellent...the lower end tag heuers not on sale.

50% off retail price.

Have Maurice lacroix(decent models) going at 70% off.

Got a mix of both high end and low end
