Out of curiosity, who died and made you the judge dredd of this thread? And all this gibberish coming after your remarkably inane opener of a post about how men of substance only wear expensive watches...

I stand by what I said.

Men need at least a single good watch for themselves.

Time being a precious commodity and also, watch being a symbol of masculinity - wealth, character and choices.

That's utter rubbish. I personally know a billionaire whom wears a $200 Seiko Quartz amd even change battery after 3 years instead of buying a new one.

Let alone the well documented cheap watch that Li Ka Shing wears.

We all know of the story of "A man who is a millionaire/billionaire who wears a casio quartz"

you know what? I also know of a billionaire who eats plain porridge regularly

Actually i share same sentiment as strawberry cream. maybe because i associate panerai with clean lines. that dial just looks 'off' in a bad way. he isnt wrong about ap and omega doing it better also imho...

really nice strap.
can share where u got it from?
thanks

Got this custom strap from Maddog. I think strap + buckle was about S$400 or so...

Is gunnystrap reliable? Anyone care to comment on the quality? Cos it aint cheap and i would like some assurance on the hardiness of the straps haha.

Bro, gunny reputable?
how's the quality like, $150++ isn't exactly cheap esp when I can get one for like 15 from K2.
most impt of all, comfortable to wear? TIA !

Yes, Gunny is reliable and well known in strap making circles. If you troll enough watch strap forums, his name pops up pretty frequently.

And yes, the term "you get what you paid for" when it comes to straps too. ;) Some think that a S$15 strap is good enough, some think a S$150 strap is better... different folks, different straps! :)

A $15 strap will just be a generic leather strap, machine made, and in the hundreds of thousands of millions of billions... oh you get my drift. :) A customised strap from any of the strapmakers, is basically your very own unique strap, that should fit you perfectly, but of course, you must do your own research as to what constitutes a perfect strap for you.

Happy strap hunting!

It's not that I disagree - in fact I'm in the same camp as you and most others with respect to hobnail dial execution - but I have an issue when someone goes around declaring that hey, that's a "pass" watch; but oh that's a "fail" watch, ugly, no value, etc. I think that misses the whole point of watch appreciation and how timepieces aren't just status symbols but also at a fundamental level, a very intimate reflection of one's personality.

If someone posts a pic of a watch and I have negative views, I tend to withhold them because I know that poster has put good money down and I don't wanna knock on their tastes. I'd have thought that was just being polite.

No, I did not have any problems with my exotic watch strap purchases, and that includes python.

I insisted on a CITES cert for my elephant strap (that was to make sure that the hide came from legal means, not poaching). And in Panerai Florence, the SE filled up an export form for the sale of 2 alligator straps to me.

Cheers!

"only a sith deals in absolutes" Yoda, Jedi master :)

Probably due to cultural differences discussions here in SG tend to be more judgemental, with a herd mentality towards popular brands and models.

If you haven't you might want to try the bigger us based forums e.g. watchuseek

Suggest trying both the 42 and 44mm at the boutique and noting the height profile. and if you can put it on and swing your arms around a bit. You'll be surprised at how a different profile changes how a watch " wears" .

Also take your time with your purchase, panerai are meant to be worn large, and the 44mm might just grow on you over time.

If in doubt get a homage 44mm for fun and real life experience.

PAM 392, a very well executed watch

I think this suits me better as i almost always go for classic design for my purchase. Just that i have not seen it in flesh yet. But i assume it should have the same dimensions as the pam535. They do wear tall. I looked at the radomir too. It is much slimmer. But it lacks the pam presence. Before i looked at the pams, i nearly bought the explorer i 39mm cos i was looking for something that has a clean dial.

Anyone knows how much the pam392 cost at AD and grey?

Thanks.

Thanks for the kind suggestion. 44 is really too big as it will extend beyond my wrist. 42 already is a border case. The pam wears tall. So i think if the 42mm dont make the cut, i will have to give up getting a pam. I did hear that the proportions of the 42mm are a bit 'out' cost it is only slightly slimmer than the 44mm. I find it still acceptable in flesh.
