Why u think this way leh? Not all singaporeans r like tat wat...:s8:

i don't think he means all singaporeans are like that but its true that relatively speaking we tend to show our wealth more easily than some other societies.

there are some facets of society that think that its rude to show off wealth, especially in the presence of others who can't afford it. my parents also brought me up that way - to be sensitive to others needs, I guess it was more from an empathetic perspective, as we were not wealthy when I was a kid.

but the modern hollywood stars and in particular banking industries is driven by short term success, and is built around the "look of success" to some degree. unfortunately singaporeans are exposed to both to a large extent, and we don't have our grand uncle and aunties on farms in the countryside to temper that perspective.

but its not just us, all big booming cities face this phenomenon, from russians to the chinese...sometimes explained as thus: Nouveau riche - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

but not all singaporeans are like that. like on here, we have guys proudly owning from cheap to very expensive, and proud of it.

one of the fun things for me about this hobby is what people tend to reveal about themselves when they show and share about their watches. i think many let on more than they think :)

Have been silently appreciating everybody's watches for a while now, so decided to come out and say hi and ask some questions :D

Does nobody here have a Panerai Zero? I see a lot of PAMs and I'm torn between the Zero and the 112. Anybody know the prices from AD and second hand here in SG? Don't think I'd have much luck finding second hand ones here though.

Rolex vs omega movements..=:p

Who Makes a Better Movement - Rolex or Omega?

"If the Co-Axial escapement truly offered an engineering advantage over traditional escapements, then so many watch manufacturers before Omega would not have passed on it. In short, I think Omega should have passed on it too."

"In the meantime, snap up all the Omega 1120 caliber equipped Omega watches you can - it's the best movement Omega has ever produced in my honest opinion."

I think showing of wealth could be coz of the safe society here. In Singapore you can wear a Rolex or Panerai and walk alone in the middle of night and dunthing will happen.

Try to do that in other country. In other country, ppl tend not to show off their wealth in case ppl rob or mug them.

Thanks for your advice!

Currently 392 is out of stock.. so yea, its a bummer to wait. Haha.

Anyway, the 312 doesn't sit nicely on small wrists like mine (6"). Just a small piece of info for people like me.

Cheers.

There should be one piece still available at Watch Link...

Super fickle minded, sometimes I like the logo, sometimes I like the super clean look of 112 lol. Are there any big differences between the sandwich dial and the painted numbers?

Open case back isn't a big deal to me. Not like anybody can see unless I take it off or wear inside out :s13:

safety definitely one part of it, but i think there other other elements driving this trait....take Japan for instance, I'd say much safer than Singapore, but definitely more reserved when it comes to wearing their wealth (generally).

i've stayed and worked in London and Paris for MNCs and they pretty much say the same about Singaporeans being show-offish about our wealth e.g. cars and watches (not me, so they can confide in me lah).

what i've noticed from being on many different watch forums is that Singaporeans do tend to be more brand/model centric, and tend to go for popular and easily recognizable watches.

the dealers will tell you the same too - sales gravitate to hot models a lot more here compared to big markets like the US and UK where people express more diverse tastes and buy more across the range.

but i can see things are changing and more and more Singaporeans are cultivating a taste for all things horological be it new/old expensive/value-for-money, popular or not.

but we're getting there ... we've got watch designers starting from scratch here, and we've got a few Singaporeans on the global watch trading scene in a big way.

ETA 2892-A2 to be exact :)

Taken from Omega forum:
"The Cal 2500 is an excellent movement, because the Cal 1120 is an excellent movement, and the Cal 1120 is an excellent movement because the ETA 2892-A2 is an excellent movement."

At the risk of sounding show-offish/arrogant, money really isn't an issue. Only live once, right? Not like I can bring money to the next life. To me, 钱是赚来花的 :D:D:D
