Can anyone advice me on what kind of watch to get? My budget is about 200-300. I went down to bencoolen today to take a look. Saw certain brands like Kenneth Cole, Arbutus, Seiko etc.

Any suggestions for non-battery type?

Seiko would have lots of 'non-battery type' to choose from at your budget

please don't, most of the cheap winders will not have the necessary settings. A bare minimum will be to have :

1. multi directional winding setting, clockwise-anti clockwise-dual direction. different movements auto wind in different directions, although most movements are dual direction auto winding.

2. turns per day or TPD setting, different movements require different number of TPD to stay wound, anywhere from 650TPD all the way to 950TPD or more. The objective of a winder is NOT to wind up your watch but to keep it at around 60-70% power reserve state. many cheap wonders have no variable TPD settings and are usually by default set to very high TPD, sometimes 1000 to 2000TPD, which can be none too healthy for your watch movement. so get one with multiple TPD settings that you can choose.

3. quality of the motor and number of motors. you will want a quiet and long lasting motor. If it is a multiple watches winder, you may also want multiple motors so that each watch can have it's own directional and TPD setting

in conclusion, don't skimp when buying a winder. you may be doing your expensive watch more harm then good?

Yep stock one, the other strap that came with it was the canvas one. Loving it, think the build is superb for the price too!

I have to agree that the build and finishing for Tudor is top notch for that price range. My black bay was my first Tudor and it changed my view of the brand, and even though it uses a ETA 2824, they do a good job of adjusting and regulating it, mine gains 1.5s or so per day regardless of wear pattern.

Hmm, good points. Thanks for the info Do the majority of you guys use a watch winder for your watches? I heard that keeping your watches on a winder actually wears out the oils in the movement requiring more frequent servicing. But then again I'm worried about constantly winding my watches manually will wear out the crown

personal preference I think. others will tell u if your watches don't tick for too long, the same oils and lubricant will thicken and also be harmful to your watch.

I personally believe watches are designed to be worn and regular servicing is essential to maintain it's accuracy and avoid damage to the many moving parts, just like a car engine. hence whether I dump my watch in a drawer for years or wear it for years, I will send it for preventive servicing every 3-5 years or so. I look at it as the cost of ownership.

plus I am lazy to keep adjusting time and date especially on my divers with screw down crown so I prefer to put them on winders to keep them going.
