net net, as a logical solution, i should just go for the brand new one?

price wise, i should compare all ranges (boutique, AD, grey, airport, other countries)

in addition, grey set means overseas AD and should normally include everything else stated. and warranty is international.

so its perfectly fine and cost-logical (i.e. same watch but price differences) to get from grey if i'm really interested in a brand new?

ultimately still need to compare and do market research to source for the best deal.

Yup! Overseas price and purchase wise i am not sure. If you are going Europe or what, should be the best price cause of tax rebate?

Down side of grey is that if they dont have ready stocks, they will order for you and you got to wait maybe 2 weeks to 1 month. If a few hundred dollars doesnt matter and you just wan to post wrist shot asap then boutique or AD can just walk in hoot!!

My 2 cents:

- Go for a brand-new piece. There is no particularly notable 'milestone' or feature in the 16610 for the series you are looking at, and especially so if you are not a tritium fan.
- Brand-new grey (from a reputable grey dealer that is) is essentially overseas AD piece. No other difference. SGROC would tell u the usual grey suspects.
- Buy in europe is a good option because of the weak EUR but retail prices have been adjusted so the discounts are being offset somewhat.
- Japan is another country to consider. Relatively 'somewhat still weak' JPY and strong grey and Rolex culture.
- HK is traditionally a good place to get Rolex. Someone recently shared an article that retail prices will be reduced in HK so that's a plus too. But bear in mind HKD is relatively strong these days.

Not able to give specifics on prices as I don't track but the way I see it based on your detailed posting, you can probably manage to research more pretty comfortably. Just need to expand your research abit more on current retail prices in the different currencies/countries, factor in FX (be conservative) and a 5% discount and obviously your cost to access to the countries (if overseas) for the 'best' deal, $-wise. Good luck!

Imho, just go for the 116610. The glidelock and ceramic bezel are good enough reasons. Brand new grey should be around 10.5k ( cash payment should be able to warrent some discount) consider watchlink, chuan watch for the usual dealers. Their website is pretty comprehensive :)

Preown or brand new would be another factor as well. Preowned AN series should be 9k plus? Have to check out sgroc for the market price.

Case study. My subC is preowned and served as my daily beater. The GMT2C for my son was brand new grey price. I wanted a brand new watch for him and to grow up with him. No right no wrong. Whatever sings to you and makes you happy :)

Oh grey includes everything unless stated. Ask first if ts complete set. Warrenty is international.

Have fun!

My vote will be for pre-owned from one of the forums/trading groups or europe purchase for new piece.

Recently a lot of newish pieces (both local and overseas AD) up for deals (less than 12 months old and in mint condition). "SGROC Trading Group" on Facebook has plenty for you to choose from.

For BNIB, europe can't be beat. You'll save around $1k off the best grey dealer's price.

If you're willing to spend $10.5k, can even get a Hulk or GMTII on SGROC. Damn power.

I would not suggest LNIB for him.. it's nice to have your 1st Rolex brand-new :).. But that's just me.

Europe is obviously a good choice but I guess only if it fits into your travel plans. And be mindful if price adjustments to RRP have occurred.

Go to SGROC and SWX forum search for those highly reputable grey... compare the price... i got my TT blue 12k few year back from one of them who actually help chuan watch to source for watch too... so the price is much cheaper then from chuan watch who is also a grey dealer. U can deal at RSC where u can authenticate the watch and doing free resize there...

For me personally i find black sub C too and GMT2 too common already. maybe u wanna consider the hulk or batman gmt2. Or if u uncle level already can consider 2 tones sub blue or black or gmt2 at few k more.

Very useful information from all the masters in this thread :s12: If you want, I can check on SubC prices in Paris when I'm there in June. I'm looking to get a 114060 myself so fingers crossed it will beat the best pricing I've got so far from grey dealers ($8,300).
