Watch noob here. Am going to get rolex for myself and wife.

Considering buying from Watch Palace or Hour Glass at Marriott. Any comments on these 2 retailers? Been quotes abt 16-17% discount off RRP for GMT Master 2 black and lady datejust.

Any comments welcomed.

Sounds good. Is more than regular 'allowable' discount and perhaps takes into consideration u r buying 2 watches at 1 go.. I would go ahead with the purchase if there are no other issues apart from price and reputation, both which are legit.

Wow really appreciate your recommendations and the other users as well...
My budget is up to $600 only, my bf doesn't like to wear an expensive watch... The Orient Bambino looks really elegant, i could get him the Seiko one too... Do u all recommend going down to a local shop or purchase it online? :s12: Sorry first time buying a guy's watch hehe

I was looking through this list of watches but nothing caught my attention, thanks to u guys i found something good!

Edited: Decided to go for the Tissot Visodate instead. Just watched a youtube review on it and the black face looks really really gorgeous!!

Although I've posted these pictures before in this thread, seems like it'll be useful/relevant for you as these are some of the aforementioned decent value-for-money watches that you might be interested in.

Tissot Visodate (although white faced and not the black which you seem to be more interested in):

Orient Bambino:

Seiko SNZF15:

Edit: For the Orient Bambino and Seiko you can take a look at http://www.skywatches.com.sg or head down to their store in People's Park Complex to take a look/bargain. Also, I have a small-ish wrist so what looks nice on my wrist might not be that nice on another person's.

Each has its own characteristics I guess. If you are looking for a day-date complication then the Tissot/Seiko would give you that since the Orient only has the date.. The Seiko is more of a casual/sporty watch whereas the Tissot/Orient is more dressy/formal. So it really depends on what you want to get for him. Alternatively, for the price of the Tissot (~$700) you can get both the Orient and the Seiko (~$200 each) hahaha.

And yeah I couldn't resist not getting the SG50 version haha.

yeah i saw... but the tissot visodate one comes with the day :s12: i'll consider your recommendations tho!

day + date is nice but if its an automatic you'd have to wear it regularly to avoid to have to set time + date + day every time.

right now if i change daily i can't be bothered to change the date on my mechanicals. guess i've learnt to turn to a watch only for time.

Careful now.. the poison is strong in this thread. You might end up buying the watch for yourself after you know more :s13::s13::D

Better check with your BF if he is ok with an automatic watch. Bought my GF one, she couldn't really appreciate it and everytime go out shopping need to help her to adjust date and wind up the watch etc before she would wear it :s13:
