Hi

I personally feel that we can create a support thread for our own Thecus Users. I am a new guy that just got a Thecus NAS and I found out that alot of things I don't really understand, even with the thick manual beside me.

So I can really understand what some inexperienced guys are going through, in terms of setting up and using it...

At the same time, this thread can help Thecus users in getting the most out of their NAS by sharing tips and guides on the things you are doing on your Thecus NAS.

Need more feedback on the validity and usefulness of such a thread here.

Regards

Model I am using: N0503

Let me start posting some qns/doubts that I encountered during last night setting up

This might be very basic to some experience users...Hey, we are new once right

Firstly, you know there is a CD that came with the NAS. During Device Discovery, it is not able to detect the Thecus NAS/products as described on the manual...Is it important to use the CD at all?

I found out that the CD is rather no use one as I can still acccess the Thecus Main men page at the IP address

Secondly, can the three hard disk be formatted one? How to do that? Is it done before create of raid5 or even after creation of raid5. we can format and partition it?

Thirdly, Can we create more than one raid5 based on the three hard disk?..Because I created one raid 5 already, with it being the master raid ( hehe, I don't know what is master raid, so just select it)

Fourthly, how you guys are transfering your stuffs into the NAS? A important qn, but I can't figure it out... Can't see anything for me to do uploading or what.... .Can we do it through USB connection or even wirelessly into it?

I only seem know how to access the Thecus main page with all it settings

Lastly. for example, if we are controlling the NAS through, said my laptop, are we supposed to see the Thecus NAS appearing on the network folder on my laptop? Because right now, I can't see it except my own laptop name icon there only

Hope someone can "enlighten" me as I am still reading through the thick manual

Regards

I am using a Starhub modem with a wireless router....

Just to clarify

You mentioned disk scan? U mean do it in window or NAS interface?
I have the IP adress and I can access the Main page interface with its settings page

How to map? I tested it but there is a need to select the folder.. I click browse and I can only see my own PC and not the NAS one

Blur.....

1. Pls see Quick Installation Guide
http://www.thecus.com/download/manual/N0503/N0503_QIG_F.pdf

http://www.thecus.com/download/manual/N0503/N0503_UM_V1.1_EN.pdf
Start from Page 15.

2. This would be the simpler way. Format/Build RAID5 which is a single step. After that, you can create folders and provide user access via ACL.

Andrews Thanks...Always quick reply...Hehe

1) I already read through the Quick Installation Guide. However, I cannot progress beyond step 5 as I mentioned that there is no Thecus device discovered during the device discovery scanning.

2) Oh, I see....I thought there is some buttons for me to reformat. So it is when I build the raid5, it will help to format first and then build the raid5 right?

3) What file system u will suggest? EXT3, 2FS, XFS

Most others Thecus NAS only got XFS

EXT 3 is the popular file system but RAID volume had 8TB limitation
XFS simalar ext3 but not volume limitation.

Good to see such a support thread. I am using a N5200 (not the PRO version... bought it before the PRO version came out). Running RAID6 using 5x 1TB hard disks. Haven't been using it much because I have been using the QNAP201.

i'm using n2200 currently.
but how do i set in order for me to access file from outside (office or other place)?

another issue will be the media server.
my ps3 can't hold on to the server. the connection will drop.
when i access the setup page for the status, the media server is stop.
only change for it to run will be restarting the N2200.
how do i keep the connection stable?

thanks in advance......

Hi all

I am now figuring out on how to map a clientPC to the N0502

However, when i use the instructions in the manual, it will try connecting to the IP addres, but it doens't connect me as it keeps attempting to conect...Anyone can assist what is the problem here as I want to map it

For the prompt up user name and pasword, is it the same one to access the administration interface? or the username and pasword I created one

Hi

Just encountered one new issue... For webdisk access, how come the user that I created with the password cannot login in one?

Does webdisk can only login in with admin username and password?

From I what i believe and read, I think the users I created can access web disk page, but somehow it is not working at the moment...

Maybe someone can provide some info here

Regards

you should use the userid/pw created at the ACL.
