I will just say only finasteride is the one that is worth trying. As for other treatments, they are not worth the money IMO. Unless you want to try hair transplant. :D

well, if one is daring enough, you can try flutamide. it is use for prostate cancer. flutamide is very powerful in blocking the activity of testosterone. side effect range from reduce in manhood, growing of tits to liver failure. normally, patient is given up to 750mg 3times a day. other than for prostate cancer, some doctor use smaller dosage for female with facial hairs. also, some male transexual use it to reduce testosterone before thier operation.

for hair loss, many use 2% lotion on the scalp. so far, most studies suggest that the effect for hair loss is due internal effect when being absorbed into the system rather than acting locally on the scalp. but the dosage is small so most likely it should be safe.

Splitting Proscar in 4

Been using Proscar for the last 3 months and already i'm seeing results. Hair is thicker (rougher too =)) and less hair loss. Problem i have is splitting the Proscar tablet into 4 equal sizes. I saw the diagram for splitting into 5, but how about 4? Tx.

same as propecia, minoxidil, and nizoral, seriously i can't really tell is it working. although my hair is thinning, my hair loss is still in the normal range and i cut my hair really short so i really have no idea is any of the treatment i am using is working. somemore i am only using it for 1month. you need at least 6-12months to guage whether a product is working or not.

to add on, the uncle i mention that intro me to alpecin result is still holding up at the 5months mark after quitting propecia.

I think the problem with using a few products is that you have difficulty knowing which one works for you... Haha... I think I will get the shampoo soon to try out for a few months 1st...

You can drop everything, but keep the propecia or proscar. :D

actually i am on something much more potent than finasteride. of course, since i am on finasteride also, i use way less than the recommended dosage and start really really slow so i can back off easily once i notice anything amiss.

As long as the follicles are still there, finasteride will do a great job, good enough. Any better it will lead to serious impotency. Maybe that is why no other drugs via similiar route are approved for male balding pattern.

If your scalp is oily, the more you need to use a strong shampoo to clean off the oil. Most people who have MBP probably benefit a lot more washing their scalp twice a day. Although there are no research I know of, but I seriously suspect the built up of oil on your scalp increase your hair loss rate.

most derm experience in hairloss view finasteride as roughly ok in maintaining hair and very poor in regrowing despite the promising numbers in the FDA trial. in real world, it performance is not really that good.

anyway, i already drop my oral anti-androgen treatment. like you say, it a bit too potent for me. i experience chest pain and itch. not sure is it related but it a sign of gynecomastia so i don't want to take the risk.

i don't think you need a strong shampoo. just a gentle shampoo twice per day will do... after washing your hair whether with a good strong or gentle shampoo, you remove 100% of the sebum on the surface of the scalp. the sebum production is constant and it won't slow down or increase no matter what shampoo you use. a gentle shampoo without Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a better bet.

Wow, what DHT inhibitor are you using? DHT has its place in our hormonal system, they cannot be aromatised, they played an important role in male sexual performance and androgenic effects. Maybe this is why a DHT blocker may be too powerful in the first place. Imagine a drug displacing all the DHT sites, can imagine the consequences.

Finasteride is good to turn on whatever Hair Follicles that is still there. It cannot create new follicles. But it does turn on hair growth in those "sleeping" hair follicles and prevent hair follicles from going into the "sleeping" mode to increase hair no. hence thickness.

I would think strong shampoo are thicker so more economical, just use less if they are too "strong".

Another thing, when you use wax/clay, apply to the tip of your hair not the root of your hair. :s7:
