erm, is it normal to shed hair during the use of rogaine? will it stop?
yes most people will shed and it will stop at a certain time, weeks to months, everyone responds to minoxidil differently

Ok these i have gathered and tried so far...

Personally tried...

Propecia:
do NOT go for proscar.. and attempt to split it into 5 pieces..
why?
no.1 u can never split it into 5 pieces equally
you know how small is the proscar?

no.2 each propecia have a coating.. for even release in ur body.. to 'stop' the hormone.
hey i'm planning to go for proscar cos i figure i simply can't afford propecia at $90 monthly for long term..
from what i gathered from other sites, it should be quite ok to split proscar into 5 pcs without losing its effectiveness... i'm not too sure abt what u said about the coating thou

i totally disagree with you on the usage of proscar. it does not matter if you split it equally into 4-5parts or not. as low as 0.2mg can have an effect very close to 1mg. so vary the dose a bit is not going to make any different. also, your Type II level is going to take days to recover to normal. as long as you are taking 5mg through out the 4-5days, it does not matter. so using proscar does not make finasteride less effective except to save you money.

the coating does not make any different on how effective is the medication. early animal study feed powder finasteride on fruit and it is as effective. that is like spliting your proscar to a thousand pieces. and if you have problem with animal VS human, there are a lot of patient dissolve finasteride in alcohol and consume it without problem.
agreed isorpopyl....

here's a product review i came across regardin proscar:

COST: As mentioned above, Propecia is just a 1mg version of Proscar, the 5mg tablet used for treating BPH. The ingredients in Proscar are identical. Both contain finasteride. If you can find a physician to write you a prescription for Proscar, you can get 30 tablets for about $60. The same cost for 30 tablets of Propecia. The fun part is, Proscar has 5 times the dosage, so some people split the pills into 5ths with pill cutters and take 1/5th a day. This $60 will last you 5 months, effectively cutting your monthly "Propecia" bill from $60 to about $12. Note! It is extremely difficult to cut a Proscar pill into 5ths. Some just go with 4ths and take 1.25mg per day. You do this at your own risk! Side effects are notably higher at this dosage. Others dissolve a pill in ether and split it into 5 equal parts, taking one part of the liquid per day, effectively getting exactly 1mg at quite a discount.

So my qns now is is it very difficult to divide the pill???????

as some1 posted previously, go to guardian or watson n get a pill splitter for 8-9 bucks. another method is to get a razor blade. for me i split my proscar into 4 parts. each part do not have to be equal in size cuz honestly its quite impossible to split them into equal sizes. btw i used to keep the proscar in a pill container n put it on a shelf in my room. but due to the recent wet weather i noticed that the pills have a kinda damp n moist feel to it. so instead i now put the pills in the fridge. so i m wondering if the fridge is a good place to store the pills?

not mean to say that biolyn totally doesnt work but it will prolly work only for a very small amount of users. the same thing applys to other products like yunam n bejing101. i got quite a few frens who tried their luck n got their pockets burnt bad by yunam. end result they say it does very little or nothing at all to help their hair problems. the only 2 methods clinically proven is topical minox n propecia. the other products u just gotta use at your own risks.

yeah i jus got back from the pharmacy... but the pill cutter can only divide the pill into 2, afterwhich i still hav to cut into another half..
anyway i asked the pharmacy gal and she told me most customers jus cut into 4 and there isn't more side-effect... she seems pretty knowledgable about the proscar/propecia pills which is quite impressive cos some docs seem to don't know much about them

Anyway jus to check with ppl here who are using proscar... is there any stronger side-effect resulting from the slightly heavier dosage (assuming i'm cutting it into 4, NOT 5) ?

Alex master, sorry i didn't state clearly.... the product review is from USA, not S'pore... So the proscar pills is around $110 somethk (forget the exact price) for 30 pills

Hair transplant costs $5 per hair graft, including GST. Usually people implant 1500 to 2000 grafts, which brings the cost of implants to about 10k.

However, it's a permanent solution. But then again, its not as dense as our original hair though....a normal person has a few million strands of hair on his head....crap, what is 200 strands...duh!~
