1. No remote control ability, with Xiaomi gateway all you get is notifications

Hi, I'm looking for a gate and door digital lock where I can unlock remotely from some where else outside as I have elderly parents whom I am afraid they will get locked out if they forget to bring the tag or password. Any recommendations?

I use the August smart lock for my door. Unfortunately, they don't have one for the gate.
But if you have an apple tv at home, the apple tv can act as a hub and allow you to access your lock remotely.

I'll choose Interlock, due to my previous excellent experience with them.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking through some bundle deals and what puzzle me some company offer two different brand of digital locks on the gate and door. Does this means have to use 2 separate apps or key cards to unlock?

Hi guys I'll be leaving the wooden door open with the gate locked most of the time. Is there some kind of smart gate lock that can be controlled remotely? Using zigbee / smartthings hub preferred.

Sorry. i've got no idea. i only have the August smart lock and i use my mobile (august app or homekit) to unlock the door. i don't really fancy carrying additional key cards.

In my case, instead of bending over backwards with fewer choices of lock, additional technology to pay for and maintain.. just to handle the exception, my parents (et al) will just call me and I will tell them the pin code over the phone. It works all the time. It might not work for your case, but I thought of mentioning it.

Thanks, appreciate the advice. This is really a confluence of bad juju as you say, the installer, the gate, the clearance... and I really don't want to throw good $ after bad.

There is a rubber spacer (I installed from day 1) on the edge of the door frame, to ensure the bolt goes in as smoothly as possible. I fitted a new one and adjusted the bolt delay timing from immediate to 3 sec. Everything seems to work properly now, fingers crossed. Don't wish to throw more money at S*msung/the distributor, so will just CST until I move out.

Lessons learnt for my new house...

The patient is sometimes the best doctor :). That rubber lining on the door might explain the (change in) situation.

PS. Here is another method to determine if alignment is the cause when issue crops up again: when open from inside, push the door in with one hand while pulling the lock handle (ie opposing direction). The reverse from outside. You may need to chew on the description and you may understand more after (especially on why push pull design may be a bit more sensitive to alignment).

Door and gate bundles are far from optimal today because not many manufacturers cater to Singapore "door and gate". If any, it is a recent development.

While not optimal, one lives with it after purchase. App and user guide will certainly be different, but key cards likely to be the same (but ask the vendor just to be doubly sure).

PS. Skip the gate if you can if you are not really sure it is worth doing it. It doubles your cost and adds additional maintenance down the road. It always look good on brochure.

If I were you, I will change my gate to the ‘new’ trend of metal gate with glass (I prefer Louvre windows) and install a deadbolt with August. Can custom design the gate that no one outside can reach the knob inside to unlock it. In case you worry that someone smash the glass, you can install a video doorbell on the main door and another CCTV inside the house. With the latter, you can spy on your neighbours legitimately with your main door open
Interesting idea, I don't think I'll custom a gate specifically just to make sure the August is out of reach. But if there's something that we like, we might go for it. Would I have to make any modifications to replace a standard gate lock to a deadlock that's compatible with august? Or is it likely to be a drop in replacement?

Thanks for the advice. I think I rather find bundle deals with the same brand. But again I might only get gate lock as most times the main door will stay open during the day

Hi all, currently looking at smart lock for my gate as well as main door.
Shortlisted 3 brands, Philips/Yale/igloohome.

Anyone have feedback to any of this brand? Is wifi necessary or Bluetooth better? Read some saying Bluetooth will be better as wifi will be susceptible to hack or something.

thanks 😊. I have just ordered the s30 pro. hope it will be a good purchase. Next is to buy the xiaomi gateway 3..

If it helps, I like my Lockin S30 Pro (still) and it is also from same vendor. Power consumption is great after a year's monitoring (with the app) - looks like I could stick with 4 alkaline batteries per year replacement cycle. 4 persons, 10 entries a day total (is representative). Lock can take 8 batteries.

PS. I like the separation of function for the connectivity, if not for the power reduction off the lock battery, then for the little fun things one can do (admittedly of less utility value).

In the absence of requirements, Yale has more revisions (ie not version 1) to their locks than the other two. As with Gateman, there is a certain depth to their lock beyond just bling bling electronics and plastics. They are decently made as a lock* and not just an electronic toy. Of course, an established brand aims to hook you on it's brand strength messages but their budget models may not reflect their brand values, so don't follow "brand" blindly. This does not mean Yale is a recommendation because there are no requirements indicated. Igloohome will take a while to catch up on build quality across their locks from I see and feel on the display shelf but I understand many may not be able to tell the difference. Philips is living it off as a home appliance company but it is not really a lock company ie. they don't make manufacture their own locks per se (just like most items in their portfolio). I like their kettle though (cheap and simple) but I gave up on their TV (so did they). I am not sure in today's world, supply chain and distribution if consumers still need to blindly follow a brand at that superficial level.

Bluetooth has a much lower power consumption than wifi. The lock is a battery operated device. I worry less about the security but that is because I am ignorant on how bad it can be. However, I do know it is not about the lock's security per se but your home network security exposure. Take comfort that there are (already) many elements in your network with the same kind of risk (perhaps different levels depending on vendor diligence).

Wifi adds a bit more to the cost too. Would one (really) need wifi (in the device)?

PS. Just my views. No agreement or disagreement needed.
Thanks bro, appreciate your input. Definitely help in my decision 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Speaking of D100.

Anyone got experience with door closer faulty~?

The installation of D100 was smooth. But apparently my door closer either slam fast or decent speed on closing but not enough force to close.

The installer tried to adjust many times but can't find a solution... so maybe I should change my door closer~?
Would you mind sharing how's your D100 after using it for a while?
Is it easy to procure a spare rechargeable battery? I don't understand the current info. The battery can be removed and recharged separately? Which means lock is out of action for a day whilst charging?

So far so good.

I only use the fingerprint..

If im not wrong, you can still manually lock from inside while charging the battery. And you can also charge it with an external battery/power source directly.

So far I havent gotten an extra battery.

The fingerprint marking can be quite difficult to find especially when there's very little light.. so you have to "feel" it.

Hi people out there, please kindly avoid Starke at all cost. Bought a digital lock from Starke and they sold me a faulty set, before buying from them they will convince you with sky high promises just want you to purchase from them (yeah all salesman do that) the issue is, they told me that they had giving all their digital locks a 2years warranty which could found in their website. When I WhatsApp them regarding my issue they did guide me steps by steps and I follow what ever steps they told me. But my digital lock still doesn’t work, and was told to arrange their unprofessional installer to clarify the issue and that cost $30! I did question them why should I pay for that? Thought there’s 2years warranty (I used less then 1month) ? They replied warranty it’s for manufacturing defects (obviously my issue it’s manufacture defect which they don’t want to admit) so I told them alright Please arrange their unprofessional installer to clarify the issue and only the installer is here and manage to solve my issue then I will pass them $30. (It’s not about money it’s about integrity) and according to them if it’s manufacture defect I don’t need to pay any single cents! But now they want me to transfer them 1st before they arrange! That is ridiculous. To the boss if you don’t have a big head don’t wear a big cap. Can’t even afford a $30 and your stupid 2years warranty. Your lousy company having this type of after sales services how customer going to trust your words that you will return $30 if is MD? I doubt that they would refund fully deposit to you as mentioned in their website. $30 can't even absorb $100 deposit how they going to refund?
Damn! basically bought a rubbish from them.
Please buy at your own risk. NO after sales at all.
Anyone wants to clarify this, PM me I'm more then happy for sharing our conversation.
