Thoughts about ATX 3.0 PSUs

I bought the Seasonic Vertex 1000W.. it has just nice 3 x PCIE 8pin cables which is just enough for my 7900XTX.... but I am still 1 short to connect to the mainboard to support Quick Charge 60W... so without it.. the front type C port on my casing can only do 27W.. which is not a big deal since I dun even use my PC casing USB port for charging.

The quick charge 60w is also use PCIE 8 pin?

Just make sure u buy the PSU that ur system needs. If u know u buying a high end CPU that require 2x 8pin PCIE slots and a GPU that requires 3x or 4x 8pin PCIE slots, then make sure u buy a PSU that has at least 6x 8pin PCIE slots or make sure it has 12VHPWR slot

I just bought a i9-13900K and RTX 4080 and i bought a Corsair 850e PSU that has 4x 8pin PCIE slots which is just nice for my system... 2 for CPU, 2 for GPU. Generally the higher the power wattage, the more slots should be available... if in doubt, always double check to make sure they got enough 8pin slots for your system needs.

That is why i spend on a superflower leadex SE 1200w PSU. It does not have a 12vhpwr port, but it has 6 pci-e and 2 cpu 8 pins ports. Using a 12vhpwr convector, it take up 4x pci-e port and i still have 2 to spare.

Plus.. this is a platinum psu.

i assume ppl buy ATX 3.0 PSU is specifically for the 12vhpwr cable, much neater as there are less cable (at the ends anyway) and plugs, very good for those really tight cases where space in front of the PSU is a premium.....There are a lot of cheaper and established (and better?) non-ATX 3.0 PSU out there for those not using the 12vhpwr cable. good ATX 3.0 PSU are really expensive

Anyway the Vertex photo u use is for the 750W Vertex. the 850W and above have 5 CPU/PCIE connectors. compare to the 1000W MSI PSU , Vertex have 5 Sata connector but MSI have 4.

Just make sure u buy a PSU with local support...there is one brand without local support...regret buying it

Si mi consider. is a damn good PSU lol just that people think it's china brand like I did, till provided with this unit... infact is even better than the vertex gold. have used it for numerous test with this. done a few builds too.. rock solid.

Just choose from this list, tier A. Take it with a grain of salt.... Got PSU in tier A but in Singapore no local support.

X3D user dont worry so much about PSU power...almost Everything cannot overclock ....so no point doing serious overclocking...unless u have the 4090 Strix, 13900k and using custom loop cooling with a huge ass radiator and hundreds of fans running at 3000 rpm

I think the issue is more connected to FSPs for having a lot of low-range PSUs.. not because it's a Chinese or an English brand .

Based on my experience in the industry, it is not unusual to encounter extremely cheap PSUs that malfunction and emit smoke. However, this is also attributed to PC-selling companies prioritizing cost reduction to maximize profits. Sometimes, they would install low-quality PSUs in gaming rigs, taking advantage of the fact that the general population lacks knowledge beyond assessing the CPU/GPU.

Companies typically source from FSP or even OEM ones when opting for extremely cost-saving PSUs. This is because FSP offers a wide range of PSUs at very low prices and is readily available in bulk. Therefore, they often become the culprit in 'those' situations. Whether this can be considered an excuse for such scenarios happening is a matter of personal judgment, my opinion doesn't matter here.

While FSP has good PSUs like the one mentioned by @KleoZy , they also have many that are low quality, which can lead to consumers losing faith in their products.

Ultimately, it's up to the brand to manage their reputation.

If I speak about gigabyte PSUs now, I already know how people will respond. It's the same thing.
