‘We don’t want overmaintenance’: SMRT chairman flags need to balance rail reliability with costs

In a wide-ranging interview with The Straits Times, SMRT Corporation Chairman Mr Seah Moon Ming shared that the company is close to finding the right balance between rail reliability and the cost of maintaining service levels. s He added that SMRT strives for “high performance, but at the same time, we must also look at the costs.”

While acknowledging that SMRT can always do better, Mr Seah also cautioned against doing too much in the pursuit of ever-higher reliability scores, citing the risk of overspending public funds that the company receives in the form of Government grants.

He said: “We never want to undermaintain because in the past, it was an issue. But neither do we want to do over maintenance.”

I hope not, let's see this few months whether the fare hikes or not.

they need bigger platforms if building new mrt stations. population and foreigners coming in..... all those stupid tiny platform now how to take the load?! thats why u hv so much overcrowding before escalator and linkway. and so damn stuffy in the station too.
I think if underground, they have to release passengers at the next platforms preferably interchanges.
If above ground, jialat, walk on the tracks? If so often, becomes like National Service call-ups. So wear sport shoes, not high heels and open crocs, carry mini fans and water-bottles, haize

True, service maintenance needs to pay technicians to work after office hours. Tis is not paying for hostesses or a bunch of yes-men jia liao bees. Somemore dare fare hikes to passengers without increasing minimum salaries.

Since increasing heart problems, if not feeling well and cannot walk along the track how?

it's to pay for the "service ambassadors" who block you from entering, so as to increase your comfort level

It's solved very quickly isn't it

Unfortunately most Singaporeans don't realise even if less than 1 hour , it will take some time and probably more than 1 hour for a guy there to get the HELL out of there after train is fixed

Getting more and more frequent of train fault.
time to have fare hikes soon.
Think the irony is, hike so many years liao the fault seems like getting more. Maybe should trim the fat see how. :s22:

price hike but they pay their own share holders for more profit. shd ban them from increasing fares for 5 years.
