Not a bad analogy at all. You ask the regulars here and they know what I’m talking about. This is the situation now for luxury watch retail and certain selective luxury retail. You follow up on regular basis and be patient and chances are you will get it. You ask once and then just wait for them to get back to you and do not follow up and you will likely get nothing.
I’m not a staff but customer. You can ask around, not just this forum. Again like what some people advised, if one doesn’t like this sort of arrangement, then they should go grey.
I went down wanted to purchase a 31mm 2T MOP DJ for my wife. They told me I don’t have any purchase history with them, so, my chances of getting allocated for a rolex is low. Ask me to look at other watches. Told them I am interested in Tudor Black Bay Pro. Was told that this watch is popular and hard to be allocated since I don’t have any purchase history. Ask me to look at other watches instead. 😨 So, do I continue gg down and chit chat with the sales person?

I guess it all boils down to running a business. They need to move their other inventories also. Maybe to retain their distributorship, etc and have target to hit. Therefore need us to bundle with other watches to purchase the watch that we want. If not, those not popular watches will be stuck with them.

If i understand you correctly, you haven’t bought anything with that sales person before and the 31mm 2t MOP DJ / Tudor BB is the first watch you enquiring with them?
My earlier advice about following up on a regular basis is more to customers who have started the first purchase and are asking for an allocation for second purchase. A bit hard for me to advice without knowing much about the background situation. It is true that for some ADs, it is no longer possible to queue for a Rolex model with purchase of certain popular Tudor models (The Chinatown AD comes to mind. They are willing to entertain only if you agree to purchase a TT Tudor Royal or something like that).
I can’t say that you should continue to follow up or not to with this particular sales person without knowing more. Perhaps you should find a sales person who you can strike a rapport with. If the first meeting is not fruitful, then you might need to look elsewhere

Don’t bother. U walk into any AD anywhere in the world u won’t get anything. Maybe u can start spending 200-300k first on No value Brands then they will try to offer you something good.

I really don’t understand. Why would anyone put 500k to 1m upfront without seeing anything? Just 30-40k for one watch I can still understand the rationale. It is really strange

I thought popular models like daytona, sub etc is difficult to get.
Didn't know Yacht series also difficult.
Quite weird though, that Rolex control the watches and who to sell to....

Ok let’s say for a Daytona panda in market it’s going for 50,000. U know u can sell it in the open market for this price. But have a shop and 5 star review seller selling it for 40,000. Require upfront payment wait 1 month. U put?

Some people they put. Then they got their orders. Then they resell the watch. Make a big profit easily. They greedy. So one shot order 10pc. 400,000. Shouldn’t be a problem since the stock came correct? One month I can wait. But hey now 3 months. No news. Then how? Wait again.
