It is very simple actually.

There are many flippers or grey dealers here selling/flipping Rolex watches from secondary market, always promote others to get from grey, from secondary market.

Therefore, whenever there are people who promote building up profile from AD in order to get their desired Rolex watches here, will be fire by them. If everyone buy from AD, there is be no business for them.
Very well thought out analysis.
i just want to share some of my own observations as well:
I feel the pie is big enough for both AD and Grey dealers to share and actually grey dealers doesn’t really need to worry about not getting the business. This is because I see two separate customer segments for both AD and Grey and neither would be snatching more business from the other, rendering difficulty for either to survive.
Customers who buy from AD will always buy from AD, customers who buy from Grey will always buy from Grey. Customers who sometimes buy from AD sometimes from Grey literally doesn’t exist or exist in very very small numbers. Customers who started buying from AD at a time when AD price is higher than Grey have continued the relationship till today and they will never switch (I have always bought from AD even when their price is higher and doesn’t intend to switch no matter what the circumstances is). Those that have make up their mind to buy from AD and have started some relationship will do all they can to continue. Those that have not exactly started but have enquired with AD have more or less gotten put off by the difficulty of getting Rolex watches from AD and have also more or less started to consider the grey route or if they persist to go to AD is more often because they managed to get a good referral for themselves to start with AD.
Then you have customers who have bought from grey for a while and these are the customers who will not switch to AD because (1) they can get all the watches they want from grey any time they want without having to wait (2) they do not see the advantage of buying from AD because the necessity to buy more watches that doesn’t interest them simply puts them off
So in actual fact, I think it is futile for either group to encourage one another to switch because it just wouldn’t work. The AD and Grey market will co-exist with each other well for long time to come and I don’t expect to see changes. In fact I see grey dealers winning more new customers these days than AD (customers who is buying their 1st or 2nd Rolex)

Its not as simple as the way you put it. If everybody starts to buy from AD but AD don't have any Rolex to sell so how to buy? :)

Those who can wait and want to start a relationship journey with AD by all means go ahead. But those that really just wanna buy their first Rolex to wear and don't wanna wait for too long will still go for grey.

As for flippers, as long as we are not one of them can liao. We cannot stop them as it is their money and they do want they want with it.

I also agree with you.

I'm neither AD nor Grey supporter.
I'm just a simple watch lover and very agree with what @Damienic mentioned above, there is no point to shame anyone here buy from AD or Grey.

Let's maintain a healthy community here for Rolex discussion.

Actually your observation has 1 point wrong.
grey biz has slowed. Ad biz has gone up. There’s a segment of customers who stop buying from grey and started AD route. Visited our sa recently and was having a chat and this phenomenon seems to be happening

Not disputing your conclusion as recently the demand in secondary market dropped with more individuals selling and less buying and so grey dealer biz is definitely affected. However, I see this more as a temporary slow down in their biz more than a real phenomenon of more grey buyers switching to AD. I believe the drop in grey biz is temporary and there would be a correction sometime later, maybe next year? I’m somewhat sure of this as I have seen people around me, first time buyers of Rolex or people who have never bought from Rolex who:
(1)A colleague bought from AD a TT DJ but was frustrated at lack of progress that she went ahead to purchase a Batman from grey dealer
(2)My own bro who declined my referral to my AD as he is largely considering grey so that he doesn’t have to buy other watches and can get what he wants faster
This is just some examples and I seriously do not see first time buyers or new customers essentially switching to AD by large numbers and this is especially so as the grey market prices have come down and more hesitated enquiring from AD as the gap in prices between AD and Grey had largely narrowed.
I get you that our SA is getting more biz but actually sometimes a number of them actually do not stay in the AD route for long term after initial purchase and also our SA has a big reputation and more are confident that they can get their watches with “less requirements” and hence she gets more biz but I’m sure she is an exception rather than the norm in the AD industry

I gone grey to get the omega speedy apollo 50th anniversary. Coz ad cant get. Omega do not sell to me as i never patronise omega boutiques. Hee.

I would go grey for rolexes if they r discon. Like the 39mm explorer. Which i do like. Luckily for me. I am not keen on pepsis. Batmans or batgirl. Though i do like to have a rootbeer and a op41 in green. And prob i have my grail of sd43 in both ss and 2t. And they r less desirable to mass market so yeah kinda easier for me to get from ad.

Maybe i would like a calatrava next yr but at moment, am super happy with what i have now. A longines spirit made me happy as well. And i strike off the air king leow as this longines pilot is much nicer. Hee.

I just get to make a new collector friend who get his rolex watches via Cortina without any "punishment". I think a strong referral is important to be taken seriously.

C sells to certain watch influencers. These people get all their watches without bundles. Some other big spending customers not happy and C has to fire fight constantly :)

Yep this is only logical. Just to clarify, when I say there is no such buyer (who buys sometimes from AD sometimes from grey), I don’t mean across all brands and models. If one is a fan of the Omega Snoopy and doesn’t intend to spend 50k of Omega watches just to get an allocation at the Omega boutique, then it make perfect sense to get it from grey. Just like models like Hulk, it is discontinued, so naturally one can only get from grey.

Not sure if your question is referring to first time Rolex buyers or across buyer of any profile? If it is the latter, I still go AD. I started buying my first Rolex with AD and at that time the price at AD is higher than grey. No matter what happens, I will only buy from AD. I can’t really explain why but it’s a long term relationship which I find very rewarding and so I will continue.

Wah so song ah? Not bad
Haha yeah. My uncle in Australia has a relationship with the AD there. Still waited a year and only the one instead of two. Not complaining! He says if future got Starbucks allocation will also give me 😂 A year in and I’m a lot more into watches, for sure I’ll keep and add to my collection.

But grail watch still your VC overseas dual time. that piece looks incredible.
By jumping through a few hoops, i am able to get my hands on 2 of either the new starbucks (126610LV), batman (126710BLNR), and pepsi (126710BLRO) at retail in any combination. I intend to keep one and sell the other. This will be my only watch for a while.

I need some advice on which one to keep and which other one to pick for resale? I dont really have a strong preference over either of the 3 but just wanna get a feel of what is deemed to be more attractive of the 3 in the long term or maybe considered to be more versatile given that i probably wont be getting another watch for a while. and also which other one to pick that would be easier to resell? can also be the same as the one i keep.

Also, does jubilee or oyster works better on the pepsi?
