The current sports model shortage works out great for everyone except the consumer.

Rolex can move their difficult to sell models, ADs can shift watches that nobody wants like the AP Millenary, etc - and people are doing this all for the supposed benefit of getting on the Rolex sports model waiting list. In the meantime, grey dealers are making mad bank by selling popular models at a markup.

Only the consumer loses out because they either have to buy a bunch of crap watches that they don't want for AD "relationship building", or buy what they actually want at a markup at the grey dealers.

Actually everything works to Rolex’s advantage so they won’t try to change the situation anytime soon.
Other brands would kill to be in Rolex’s situation now

Works out fine for consumers who do get hold of a sports model. Bragging rights. Just saying.

Classic case of pricing error for the GMTs. Where the older 5 digits out price the newer 6 digits model. Both model discontinued.

Can help me dispel a myth?

Not sure if it was asked before...but are there instances where AD sell to grey, and they split the profits when someone goes to grey to buy a piece?

Eg AD sells 124060 to grey at 10,880...then grey sell to buyer at $16k, $5k profit share share?

ADs used to sell at premium outright
They’ll keep all the popular models
If you willing to pay mark up then they sell to you
But not anymore after I heard rolex clamp down on it
But I’m sure there’s undertable as what you shared
If you are manager of AD would you give up chance to make extra buck?

Why would a newer movement, bracelet and ceramic bezel model be priced lower than older movement and alum bezel? Hmmm

Ish juz rike those flippers who try to flip teh older kermit for over 20k when teh new kermit ish ceramic and also black faced...better movement can also be bought at premium of over 20k

if moi going to spend over 20k for a kermit irregardless simi fat 4 flat 4 nonsense Id rather spend it on teh newer ceramic kermit

Yes, the situation is not great, and it's a very warped market; but ultimately there are sufficient consumers voting for the current system with their wallet. So the game will continue.

If you really detest the game, the answer is really not to sit there and get frustrated about how unfair life is, or put your name down and wait 20 years without any Submariner appearing. Or sit around in forums like a disgruntled taxi uncle with one leg up whining about "flippers" all day long - you not bored, people also bored of seeing you KBKB. Firstly, there are many more unfair things in life; secondly, there are more intellectually stimulating topics that you can entertain your mind with. The simpler answer is: just don't play. I am happy with my old, non-hyped 14060, which is in my view, after trying the Sub-C and looking at the newer variants - just perfect for me. :) None of the new models interest me. :s13:

Just my 2 cents, cheers.

P.S. You know, if you really, really, want to try something, just buy second-hand, make sure you pay a good price, and move on fast if you don't like it. You won't lose too much money.

P.P.S. If you're hungering after that new sports model in the hopes that this is going to be the BEST INVESTMENT ever, there are at the very least, investments with similar gains and risk levels.

I certainly hope so. Really thinking of getting one from the greys.

Bro if you are willing to pay 17-18k for a no date sub, just go for the 116610LN for less instead.

Or rather you top up 7-8k more for a pepsi. That amount of premium for a plain sub is crazy man.

Is the rolex yatchmaster rhodium a good buy?
The selling price and retail seems to be close.

Don't see or hear much people sharing their thoughts on it.
Pretty keen to get it.
Wanna hear more opinions & advises 😄

The blue dial is very nice. Not easy to get also. Platinum bezel. It's priced higher than gmt and sub.

There is a reason why it is not popular.

1. The platinum bezel discolours easily.
2. Too much bling. Shiny bracelet, shiny case and shiny bezel.
3. For the dial, unless it is blue or black, it is very hard to tell the time.
4. Watch is heavy.

I would say the rhodium dial is the second worst. The previous platinum dials were the worst.

This is very good information sharing.
Thanks bro.

Looking for a Rolex - new to the scene

Hi bros, i'm looking for a Rolex Air-King / gmt master II - batgirl/pepsi / sub-no date. i'm new to the scene but wishing to get my first Rolex.

Hoping to buy at retail from an AD and have visited a few. Any advice on any potential AD that i can visit or anywhere that i can get at a close to retail price for those?

Thank you in advance.
