I dealt with Japanese dealer whom I knew from chrono24 however we did not use the platform to deal instead he gave me tourist rebate for it. It was in 2020 and I paid in full and susposed to fly there to pickup. Due to covid, Japan was locked down and the watch was with shop for more than 2 years. Eventually when international shipping is available, he shipped over to me foc and I am impressed at the QC and trustworthiness as the watch appreciated in value over the 2 years. He has a personal report on the watch as well with the usual cards etc.
If through chrono24, they have escrow service however only dealers accounts are guaranteed. If they are private sellers, return/authentic are not guaranteed.
For local authentication, the most common is uncle lim at top hour lucky plaza.
Wow. Japanese service and honesty really. Wonder if going to their resellers there would be any good. I forgot if I read it here also, that Japanese are the best sellers because they take care of their watches so condition always very good.

I saw 1 Tiktok they went to the store and bought those vintage watch mystery bags quite interesting haha

You immediately bring to where to authenticate? Chrono24 provides escrow service in case it's fake right? Have you deal with Japanese dealers before? Their prices seem lower.
I didn't authenticate. The watches I buy on Chrono24 are not commonly faked. Firstly, always buy the seller. If the seller has been selling for 10 years with hundreds of 5 star ratings, and they reply you quickly and straightforwardly, you know they are legit. Plus I always ask for the pictures of papers to and match the serial number or limited edition number to the watch. Almost no chance of any fakery.

Of course if you buy Rolex or AP or PP, you can do your own due diligence and bring it to your own watchmaker to verify after you receive the watch. For these brands, I buy locally.

The escrow service exists but not for every ad post. Dealers usually have this service, while private sellers don't. But again, not always. The payment will not go to the dealer until you mark it as received and all good. And you can reject the watch and demand a refund.

I have even dealt with a dealer that doesn't offer the escrow service. I had to wire the money directly to them, and my bank even called to ask me why I am sending a relatively large sum of money overseas to a new account, and warned me that once it goes through I will not be able to get the money back. I did it anyway. Zero issues.

Why? Again, I bought the seller. Mostly 5-star reviews with the dealer's actual name (not the company name) mentioned and people stating upfront that although escrow service is not available, deals go through without a hitch and that the dealer is reliable, even when the buyer wants to return the watch.

Always ask for actual pics of the watch and BP. New pics taken with handphone. If they are legit, they will have no issues doing it for you. You can then see details like an office environment, they handle the watch wearing gloves, the box/papers in the background at the same time...etc. Clues that tell you the dealer is legit.

Reputable sellers can also turn rogue 1 day. Just be diligent and check all aspects of the deal.
Yeah. As buyers we always slant the safety of the deal towards ourselves.

When I first started buying from Chrono24, I would only deal with established dealers with escrow service. As my experience grew, I started dealing with dealers & private sellers without escrow.

The most important factor is always to feel out the seller through communication. There are plenty of 5 star dealers that I didn’t even bother to follow up with given the way they respond or the time they take to respond.

I’ve even befriended a Russian dealer based in Florida through just talking. Can be fun.

Yes, reminded me of Tradenation scam. They had various 5 star reviews and honoured all their customers purchases for the first 6 months or so when they first stated the business. Little did people know that it’s all part of an elaborate scam to gain people’s trust first and then went in for the kill when they have gathered sufficient deposits to abscond

I contacted them to check him out even though I knew there were many shipments delay to customers and this scumbag is still trying to take order and gave excuse delay due to GST issues at custom. When a deal is too good to be true, most of the time is a scam..lol

1 of my friend really went to try their service. he was lucky, got the watch and decided to flip it.
so he got his cousin to meet the new buyer and realised its the same runner that help deliver the watch to my friend.

In the local reseller scene, the bigger ones with long history are Chuan, Bright Time and WatchGen. Watch Exchange at Far East is new to me but the stocks are aplenty on display which is impressive.

Some victims said that they pay in full as they always deliver in the first few purchases they placed and they have a shop which gives victims the confidence to deal with them
