ask you guys ar... If I tip THB 20 for an hour full body thai massage, is it considered rude?

Usually how much do you guys tip? Say for dining at restaurant, for most part I will pay with cards and in the charge slip there will be this portion on tips which I will strike off or write zero. Is it rude? I know in SG it is fine cuz I do that all the time but how abt Thailand?

same about 50-100. but usually it's 100 cos not many 50 baht notes. min 40 baht. i go to lek @ siam sq. the head, shoulder and back massage only 300 baht, so we think tipping 100 is all right. read some ppl don't tip at all. up to you i feel.

rgd restaurants, never encountered what you mentioned. usually pay in cash even for fine dining places cos some friends bring more cash and they will settle first.

we never tipped for restaurants so far. probably only if we don't want the loose change.

Perfectly fine too.. Recommended to pay the tip in cash with small notes. 20- 40 baht is fine la, people always have the perception that go overseas is throw money one. :s13:

any amount is ok as long as you don't tip them with coins, i read somewhere that tipping them with coins is like treating them as beggars.

there is no such thing as rude unless you tip them in coins.

personally, i used to tip 20B-50B some 10 years ago. now, 100B is nominal for us. i will, nevertheless, tip 20B if i'm unsatisfy with the service. but thankfully, there hasn't been a need for me to do so.

for "face" factor, it is known among thai people (especially those in the service industry) that Chinese (from PRC, HK, S'pore and Malaysia) and Japanese are the worst tippers. For Japanese, tipping is not their culture. For Chinese ... what can i say ... i think you know best. want cheap, want fresh, want big brexxt and must be easy access. :s22:

as much as you may not believe it, Thai ppl love pinoy customers. they are demanding but quite generous in tipping.

Edited:
if you take a look at the "Baht Exchange Rate" and "Budget Airline Promo" threads. those who cried in tears every time there's a 0.01 change to their disadvantages are those who would think 20B tipping is over the top.

when you are on holiday, you can choose to make sure that you and only you are happy (because you paid for it). for us, we very much prefer we and the people around us are happy too. cheers. :)

If you go to Healthland, if you forget to tip, they will remind you to tip. And minimum 100 baht ok! Else they will show you a super black face. Forget about the Land of Smiles. It'll be the Land of No-Smiles!

i mean if lazy one, fallen asleep most of the times, why i shld tip there more?

tipping is individual choice lah, u want to give 1000baht also your choice mah....

that is not kiam siap!!! i tip them more if they are good.. some really damn lazy and i dislike both massuer keep chatting, not focus on massage and some even eat my time... opted for 120mins, ended up i get 20mins lesser...

its your choice to tip 200baht loh.. tipping no standard amt, is individual if they are happy or not... maybe u r lucky loh, happy w the massuers all the times

singaporeans spoiling markets everywhere...those who say should tip at least 100 should go stay usa where tipping is the culture.

i don't commonly see singaporeans tip local taxi driver $1-$2 yet they are tipping $4 at thailand? start with tipping local taxi driver first la...
