Any thoughts about this?

TpLink TL-XTR7880
China Fw
AX7800 Triband.

Supports router to router mesh configuration, wired or wireless backhaul.
The local TpLink routers cannot do this.
Not likely to have use for the SFP port so that's a waste.

Worth a try at SGD$200 if the language barrier is not too great?

TP-Link China has come out with many good routers. It is unfortunate that they do not have corresponding version for the international market. And you are right it is a pity the local version routers do not have the EasyMesh feature of the Chinese version.

Many online sellers are still selling various Xiaomi and Huawei China version routers. But there is a concern on the regulation compliance.

For Asus routers even though it is still a bit grey but at least the China version and local version have the same hardware and same firmware. Just there are some behavior differences due to the underlying country code (for the AX router can not be changed, at least not easily, due to encryption protection). Technically once you set the Region to Singapore it will be complaint to local regulation.

This may not be true for TP-Link routers meant for Mainland China market (not so sure if there is a region setting, probably they do have but I am not so sure).

Please read the comments from firesong here.

Good find...

Each geographic region has regulations for both power output level and approved frequency bands, because they take into consideration other uses of the same frequency bands. That's why there's a regulatory body to coordinate this - so the guidelines should be adhered to in order for everyone to play well together.

This is also a reason why parallel importing routers meant for use in other counties could even be illegal - because they would exceed IMDA's stipulated guidelines. Wireless frequences are both a boon and a bane - it enables convenience but a user's excessively strong signals also serve as signal jammers to all the neighbours.

I only saw in their help file that there's country selection for the 6e section alone but the rest of the interface isn't as fleshed out in the help sections or the pdfs.

So there's no way to know if there's a country selection in there elsewhere or not.

Don't see any CHINA TPLINK user here with ax units but so far only AC mesh i recall so that's limited help...

My Chinese not very good, please correct me where applicable.

192.168.1.1 will reach a setup wizard & prompted to create an admin login password.

Next, to choose your ISP type, account, fixed IP or dynamic IP

You can merge all channels into 1 SSID by choice.
If you don't then you can set them up individually.
Enable AX?

You can select country zone here, CN, US, AU, EU.
Bands beyond those in China for ch 48 onward, 140 onward can be accessed after waiting for a minute on a warning page.

Above this is the individual channel/SSID config.
160mhz is avail on both 5Ghz
Mu mimo is only displayed on 5Ghz-1
20/40 on 2.4ghz
20/40/80 on 5G2
TWT, ODFMA enable disable

Choose to enable dual WAN using ports of choice.

IPTV via VLAN tagging is available.
The other option seems to be for a IPTV box to connect locally via LAN.

Can Choose something like LAN teaming???

Finally SFP port configuration, Auto, 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps

About 40-46degc on the underside by a IR thermometer.
Top is cool, about 36-40degc.
Power brick about 36degc

By comparison, my current AX3200 top face is abt 46 degc , bottom is 56 degc max

Has WDS
DDNS does not seem to be able to add other providers except for TPlink and another "Peanut" named provider.
Has an "Auto RAM(?) Cleaning" feature

Do not like the router UI as it seems only inclined to touchscreen-type devices.
Could not find a place where I could setup a timeserver sync manually.
Does not have admin name, just a login password on 192.168.1.1, not https.

Take note this will not work for Singtel ONT users as it does not support Singtel VLAN. ISPs like M1/Starhub/MyRepublic should be fine, also good for Whizcomm ONT or Viewquest ONT users.

For Singtel ONR users then this will need to be configured in AP mode to prevent Double NAT, kind of wasted. Same for Whizcomm ONR or Viewquest ONR users.
