Depends on your shopping and eating type. The best location is Shinjuku for me but the younger generations might prefer Shibuya. Budget ones usually Ikebukuro or Ueno. Atas ones would be Ginza. Cultural ones maybe Asakusa. Totally lost ones maybe Narita lol.

Have stayed in Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku.
Very convenient location. You can take the airport limo bus from Narita/Haneda Airport and alight directly at the hotel entrance.
The room is very small though. We have stayed in their economy double. Put 2 big luggage no space to walk already.

Depends on your budget for lodging. I’ve stayed in various areas, from hostels to business hotels and full-fledged hotels. Stations where I had stayed before: Daiba, Shimbashi, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Shin-Nihombashi, Tokyo, Asakusa and Bakurocho. And of course the kind of shopping you intend to do.

i highly recommend Hotel Century Southern Tower... this is just across Takashimaya and stone throw away from Shinjuku station...

The room is big and spacious... The view from 30+ floors is quite nice...

Stayed at Sunroute before... the room very small...

And Grand Nikko at Daiba is quite nice as well... spacious room and big bathroom... i find that area if want to go shinjuku/shibuya/harajuku a bit not convenient... but daiba itself got a lot of shopping malls liaoz...

$250/night for two adults? That’s ¥20,000 per night. Mid range then. Also depends on the season you’re visiting.

Actually Sunroute has bigger rooms, just go for at least Standard rooms. Many say the rooms are small, that’s because they book semi-double rooms, those are actually single rooms. Check the room size. I find anything above 15sqm are good enough for two adults.

I won’t suggest Century Southern Tower. Definitely out of OP’s budget.
Estimate of the pricelist of the rooms - https://www.southerntower.co.jp/rooms/double/

There’s a coin laundromat in Sunroute.

Else consider JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Shinjuku, just next to Sunroute. Newer hotel and spacious too, didn’t look like a business hotel. Double room is around ¥20,000-22,000 (inclusive of tax). Stayed there before and the breakfast buffet was good too - free flow of mentaiko for rice, not sure about now. Laundromats on three separate floors. Check the calendar, see if you could get the early bird stay plans.

If dont mind some walk to main Shinjuku Station(Shorter distance to metro line), can consider Citadines Shinjuku or Citadines Central Shinjuku(Nearer to Shinjuku Station)..

For all my past trip when i go Tokyo, i sure stay at Citadines Shinjuku.

I am planning to visit Tokyo on 31Oct-10Nov 19 too.
Total 6 adults, 2 are Pioneer generation and 2 are Merdeka generation. :s13:
I am looking for airbnh apartment in Ikebukuro area, 4 rooms in total and prefer to stay close to each other. Checked airbnh site, doesn't seem to find a good deal, anyone has recommendation? Budget - $120/room.

Meanwhile in Tochigi and Yamanashi prefecture:
Does anyone ever experienced entire villa or entire cottage rental? My budget is $600/night for a cottage house to accommodate 6 of us. I am planing to stay 3N in each prefecture. Since it is a self-drive tour, the more ulu the better, looking forward to stay in the wood.

With the new regulation it is quite challenging to find a good and affordable airbnb. How about hotels or motels in the western area of Ikebukuro? Rooms are small but should be within your budget or slightly more.

Yes, knew about the new regulation. Any recommendation will be helpful.
Used to stay in Ikebukuro for 3 years 30 years ago. Google street view show not much changes in this area. The Sunshine Prince hotel was my dream hotel to stay when I was a student back then. :s13: It was the tallest building at that time.

Kichijoji is little out of my expectation location. Looking forward to see some recommendation near Ikebukuro train station. 4 elderly to take care and day 1-3 have no rental car yet, don't want to let them walk too much.
