TP-Link EB810v - Quick overview

Starhub called me to say that it is TP-Link who should be updating the firmware. TP-Link replied that it is Starhub who should be updating the firmware for this router. I have email TP-Link's email to IMDA today. Starhub said they will keep the case open while i complaint to IMDA.

i have a case with tp-link , i am using eb810v, extremely frustrated with the slow connections and dropoffs. TP-link did tell me that firmware is by Starhub and Starhub pushed this back to TP-Link.
May i know how do you make a case with IMDA?

Email to IMDA via Info@imda.gov.sg however i just noticed that it is not illegal to refuse to update the firmware. It is still good to report the case to IMDA. I suggested SH to stop buying TP-Link since they refuse to update their firmware putting users at risk.

yes you should email IMDA. I just called Starhub to complain again and they offer to change my router this Sat. I just dropped them an email after calling them as i noticed that Singtel has updated HB810 router's firmware. I asked them "Is Starhub not as good as Singtel?" and why Singtel update firmware but Starhub never update?

Share share my observation on EB810V after about 1 mth usage.

Ethernet Backhaul Setup (Left Setup)
I setup my EB810V(Living Rm) as the main router with a EX510(Store) Ethernet backhauling to it.
I have another EX510(MBR) with Wireless backhauling to the EX510(Store) to cover deadzones in the MBR.

In this setup my mobile phone experiences Wifi Sticky syndrome..
ie: When i am in Room 3 or kitchen, my mobile is persistently connected to EB810V with a -70db connection and very patchy internet connection. I would expect that in a mesh setup ....if the connection is weak .. EB810v should auto handover the connection to EX510(store)... I had to turn off/on the wifi on my mobile before it establishes connection to the EX510(Store)



Wireless Backhaul Setup (Right Setup)
I setup my EB810V(Sore) in the Store as the main router with both EX510(Dining) and EX510(MBR) Wireless backhauling.

In this setup, the mesh works perfectly. I can walk throughout the house and I get full coverage everywhere.
*I also observed Wifi Sticky Syndrome when I am on Wifi 6e -> Wifi6 or vice vesa. So I just disabled Wifi 6e on the EB810V.
*fyi EX510 does not support Wifi 6e.


I got a lingering suspicion that the mesh network doesn't work very well under Ethernet backhaul.

I set up my eb810v on my Tv console in the living room.. Then ethernet back haul to DB box patch panel, and use a BE550 as a mesh satellite in my MBR.

But eveeytime Im on 6ghz in the living room, my s24ultra won't automatically transfer to the be550 in my MBR.

What is the benefit of using 6 Ghz wifi over 5 Ghz? Like no different.

1. As of now, 6GHz does not seem to work with TP-Link EasyMesh. Basically the mesh node's 6GHz will not be part of the EasyMesh, no matter using Ethernet backhaul or Wireless backhaul. This seems to be true, at least for two different wireless nodes. The result is that you may not be able to have seamless roaming on the 6GHz band.

Example 1: your test -- EB810v + Archer BE550
Example 2: my test -- Archer BE805 + HB710 (but I can no longer test this combination now).

Need further test results from others to see if the following works or not.
1) EB810v + EB810v ??
2) HB710 + HB710 ??
3) Archer BE805 + Archer BE805 --> this is supposed to work.

2. TP-Link Deco mesh and Asus AImesh will work. In fact Asus AImesh supports wireless backhaul using MLO (wtih some limitations).

Reference for Deco 5GHz/6GHz backhaul: 5GHz/6GHz backhaul work with or without MLO. 6GHz can also be used as dedicated wireless backhaul if MLO and 6GHz SSID are disabled.

Ah that sucks.. I had a suspicion the 6ghz can't be meshed that's why I'm getting a other 6ghz network in my MBR.

Now Starhub wrote that it is TP-Link who should be doing the update of the firmware and TP-Link wrote it is Starhub. See what IMDA say. I just feel like throwing away this router.

When are they swapping your router? Do share if the firmware is the same after the swap too please.
So we know whether there's changes in the firmware, if it's still the same then it's back to whose responsibility it is to update the firmware - SH or TP-Link.

For TP-Link service provider models, the end responsibility should still be with TP-Link. TP-Link needs to provide the updated FW for bug fixes and feature enhancement. But take note many TP-Link support staff are not familiar with the service provider models like EB810v.

Take note FW update distribution channel is a different issue. For SingTel, they distribute the FW in public SingTel website for HB810 and HB611-SGST. Starhub seems to rely on hidden TP-Link web server to distribute the firmware updates for EB810v/HB710/HB410.

Damn silly to make it so difficult just for firmware upgrade.
