Aiya this tpg so slow... now 5G just round the corner they still havent roll out 4g :s22:
???? just round the corner? not sure about you're smoking.

don't even have confirmation from imda on network and market rules for 5G. and even if there is, spectrum bidding for 5G is expected to only happen after 2021.. by Oct 2021, TPG would have to meet imda's deadline for network coverage in tunnels and underground..

Where did you see that there will be a spectrum auction? https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/singapore-aims-to-have-first-5g-applications-next-year-no-auction-for-airwaves-imda
This will be done through a regulatory process known as a Call For Proposal (CFP). An airwave auction will not be conducted.

Also where did you get info that 5G will be started only by 2021? https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/singapore-reveals-more-details-on-5g-rollout-plans-launches-2nd-11510114
Singapore on track to roll out 5G mobile networks by 2020: Iswaran
TPG won the auction in 2016. Now its already 3 years later and TPG is still not ready when they claim they they will have service by mid 2018 https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-markets/tpg-telecom-is-singapores-4th-telco

and yes 1 year later is "round the corner" by my standards :s13:

you need to reread my initial post. curious to know which part of it mentioned about auction?? the spectrum will only be allocated to 2 telcos, and like what you've quoted, two out of all the received proposal will be chosen.

scroll down to the 2nd link you have provided. yes, 5G mobile services may slowly roll out in 2020, but prepare for coverage that is much worse that what TPG's 4G is providing now.

"Some of the key proposals IMDA made include:
.......
-It intends to free up spectrum in the 3.4GHz - 3.6GHz band - critical for the provision of wide-area coverage - for 5G by 2021, as it is currently used for satellite communications in the Asia-Pacific region by countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, IMDA said.
.......
............
-Successful spectrum rights holders will be required to provide 5G standalone networks - meaning these are not piggy-backing on existing mobile networks - with more than 50 per cent coverage within 24 months from the commencement of the 3.5GHz spectrum right. They must use the mmWave spectrum within 12 months from given the airwaves."

are you doing selective reading? were you expecting all the MNO to pump funds into construction of 5G infrastructures now all over SG and expect coverage everywhere in 2020? :s13: we are looking at an expected coverage of at least 50% within 2 years from 2020..

hopefully this more "recent" article on SingTel CEO's response to questions about their projected capex spending for 5G will shed some light for you. it's not a very long article since it's just an extraction of their recent earnings briefing, so I trust that you could catch the important points mentioned and would need be to quote and point it to you one by one. :s13:

To make call with TPG. Phone must have VoLTE support. Not sure if Xperia C5 has VoLTE support?

Anyone manage to use Sony Xperia C5 to make call using TPG?

not all VoLTE-enabled phones can make calls with TPG. refer to the list of supported phone models provided by TPG.. anything that works outside that list would be a bonus.

If a certain phone model has VoLTE and also has LTE bands 8 and 40.. it still doesn't mean that it can make/receive calls with TPG unless it's in TPG's list of supported phones is it?

For newer phone, there is a chance that tpg and the phone company might come out with a fix to make it work.
I don't think they border about old phones

Yes, phone firmware and Telco must support it too.

yup.. for example my S8+ and S9+.. both support VoLTE and FDD B8 and 40. but can't call with the S8+.. but all functions like data, SMS, voice calls works the moment I insert the Sim card without any further settings with S9+..

Both S8 and S8+. It seem already get supported. I know Mi Mix 2 and 2s is ok too.
yea I understand that since the start of the trial till now more and more devices are supported or can be tweaked to work.. which is why I mentioned that any devices not stated within the list that works would be a bonus.
