Trying to OC GPU and CPU

1) AVX setting in BIOS u set 4 right? When using AVX stress program your cpu clock @4.8ghz with an AVX setting of 4 will reduce clock to 4.4ghz.

2) Enable multi-core performance enhancement setting in BIOS so yr cpu clock wont goes down to 4.3ghz during gaming

2) how to enable multi core performance? i google and it can be activated using msconfig>boot>boot advance option>number of processor set to 6?

3)my cpu clock able to reduce when idle when i set the power option to balanced and set the power management minimum to 5%...but my vCore still stuck at 1.24+v...that 1 can be adjusted based on my usage?

1) avx u put 2 or even off it ok de. it mostly in stress and video encding progaming. most gaming don't use it .

2)maybe your board dont have that multi-core performance enhancement , it ok lol.

3)could be your manuel voltage does not work with the c states. if u really want to use less voltage when idle , u can use adaptive voltage. But adaptive voltage is much more hassle, got to set a few things like vdroop /llc cos it will spike/droop voltage when booting up which add to instability if u didnt set correctly. i suggest u use stay manuel 1.25v or try lower to 1.2v . u can run that voltage whole day long no problem.

1) there are several temp breakpoints (43c , 51C , 57C , 63C , 68C etc ) where the GPU will underclock by 12.5mhz each time the thermal breakpoint is met ,
most probably to protect the GPU from overheating i presume.
That is the reason why anyone with a pascal card will see their clock and voltage fluctuating up and down during gaming and might even experienced micro stuttering fps drop



2) u can see the below my stock gtx 1080 (no OC) start from 1898mhz and drop till 1835mhz @ 67C under 99%load ( temp could be higher if i stress test longer )

3) So what i do is UNDERVOLT my card @0.90v and choose my highest stable clock @1911mhz .
I get a constant 1911mhz @ 0.90v and 7c lower temp becos of the lower voltage used.
No more micro stuttering and unnecessary fps drop.

p/s : undervolting your GPU should give you a free performance boost compare to Stock .

Nice! I don’t like my GPU to be too hot as well. I try to use afterburner to try to adjust the fan speed but like not much changes. How do you under volt the GPU?

hmmm, if you are using msi afterburner, click it and press CTRL+F..will bring u to the oc curve..select 0.9v and press "L" to lock it..then click apply.

at stock 0.9v will have lower clock, so press SHIFT at 0.9v dots and pull up to your intented clock and lock it. run benchmark to see if its stabilise / play some games..if all good, then can slowly adjust upward...if not, just revert back...

at least thats what i did:s22:

Shortcut way :
1) ctr+f to bring out the voltage graph
2) shift + right click to drag up the dot of your voltage choice (should be able to increase +100 to +200)
3) press L to lock it.
4) save profile.
5) create a few oc profile at 0.85v, 0.9v, 0.95v,1v with the same oc value and compare fps in game. It almost make no difference in my case.

Good stuff must share. But don't get too addicted to oc or you will find yourself spending hours and days trying to find that perfect oc lol.

yea. im stopping my oc. i started the whole thing just to get something that is "better" than the stock since i have all the gear..K cpu, watercool, 3200mhz ram..1080ti...like why not.

can really notice the significant changes in ac odyssey that im currently playing. before oc, i was baffled with the poor performance and stutter everywhere. tried every method there is online and still not satisfied..

once i OC, i can get constant 95% 70~80 fps..before OC it was around 45~70fps:s12::s12:

now i just do some reading on how to get full 4.8ghz in game and whether to let the core clock fluctuates or just constant 4.8ghz throughout since my voltage still remain the same

Since u using fixed voltage I see no point in doing that 5% cpu clock. Keep your constant 4.8hz. Your 1.25v is still much lower than the default voltage the board recommend so u are very safe.

oh, so if i understand you correctly, i shud just run it at constant 4.8ghz @ 1.25v?

and i read somewhere says that i wont be seeing 4.8ghz in game coz game dont use that much? only stress test able to push the cpu to the clock limit. hence im seeing 4.4ghz in game while 4.8ghz idling?

I think the problem is your power plan is set to Balanced in Windows. Change it to Performance and it will run full overclocked speeds at all times.

i start with full performance and its still the same. constant 4.8ghz at idle. 4.4ghz ingame (using rtss to monitor). i google and it has something to do with enabling mce for constant 4.8ghz throught even in-game and idle..but my bios dont have such option.

only recently i change to balanced to have lower clocks when idling (not to stress out the cpu for longevity?). but since its fluctuates erratically when im idling, i think i just change to constant 4.8ghz @ 1.25v while idling

Can you try disabling Speedshift, EIST, Energy Efficient Turbo, Race To Halt (RTH) and CPU Enhanced Halt in BIOS? Keep CPU Thermal Monitor on Auto and Package C State Limit to Auto as well.

Disable Multi-Core Enhancement if you are manually overclocking.

Try to go into advanced and check something similar to the options I posted. I find it hard to believe the ASROCK would have something as crucial as this missing!

Again u should try the following:
-LLC 3 (Entry board entry vrm), LLC1 might overwhelm it
-Slight positive offset (dont used fixed if you want dynamic frequency volts scaling), maybe +20mV
-See where it takes u to when ur 4.8GHz on load.
-Cache ratio max at core -5 for plug and play without testing. Best chipss are around all core ratio -2 or 3
-After all core clock stabilises, you may want to run per core ratios so they clock asynchronously based on load.
-Depending on headroom of your chip, you can do per core prolly at
1 core ratio: 49
2 core ratio: 49
3 core ratio: 49
4 core ratio: 48
5 ... : 48
6 ... : 48
Also your VccSA VccIO is abit high. XMP 3200 should be pass without testing even at 1.15v which is quite overkill, 1.2+ are typically for 3866 or 4000+MHz memory

Reason for improving thermal headroom via power management on entry board, minimise chances of VRM throttling iirc that board is good for up to 130W or so sustained...

Balanced plan gives u cache/voltage/clock adjustments via offset mode
High perf/Ult perf gives u clock/voltage adjustments via offset mode

And what hlots sifu said avx offset 4 is too much. Iirc platform ideal is 0-2 if not you're offsetting too much that it hurts perf
