Be prepared to receive calls from thai no. on your registered line.

Most of the uber/grab drivers would call to confirm your pickup location or to inform you of the est. arrival time before trip. I guess it's to manage pax's expectation so that they won't cancel on them.

I would recommend to get a thai sim card in this case :D

thanks! so you mean still possible to register uber thailand with SG number?

i rarely use taxi in bangkok, except for places which don't even have public bus.

i will consider if worth getting the thai sim after finalizing my itinerary

AFAIK it doesn't matter where you are going, as long as uber operates in that country, you can get uber from the same app that you've registered in Singapore. No separate registration required.

I've used the same app in Manila before, no issue.

Erm... Just wondering if there's any reason for it? If your prepaid number is also SG number, I don't see any difference whether the app is downloaded in Thailand or in SG. The app is the same app for all countries. If you look at Uber app in Play Store (assuming you're on android), most of the (negative) reviews are left by Indians in India. Some from US. They are using the exact same app as us. One app per OS. Not per country.

I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly but alternatively you can try signing out from your main sg number and sign in the same app as a new user with a new number. Come back SG re-login with your main number. Not sure if it works this way.

Edit: apparently Uber FAQ suggested for you to edit your account and save your temporary number if you intend to use a different sim card when travelling. But I think you should be able to create a new account with the same app...

actually i don't need to use taxi in SG
and only my SG prepaid number is active when oversea
and i think if i register as new member in BKK, i get free credit (500THB?) as new member

btw, i been reading uber been banned & illegal in thailand, so just curious why people are still able to book them? :s11:

It's Uber Taxi and Uber Motorcycle that's banned, not the usual Uber (private car hire).

use a thai no, very likely they will call you after accepting trip. if you don't want to incur roaming charges on your sg sim card, get a local sim.

Thanks! but looks like don't need a cab now since I found van transportation to my destination :)

I suggest you buy a local Sim card for reason below:

1) If the driver couldn't contact you, then its going to be problematic.
2) You can change the uber account to bangkok, but then it's not recommended.
3) You can sign up uber using this code below to get 75 THB off two rides

a) Use a local thai sim. The driver will usually call you.
b) Unless you speak Thai and can give reasonably accurate driving directions, I always call for Uber/grab from a prominent location (hotel entrance, restaurant, etc), with local staff (security, doorman, etc) close by. It's easier for the driver to find you, and if he calls, Thai's are friendly people and I've never had trouble handing the phone over to a staff to advise the driver how to find the pickup location.

It's possible to use your SG number; in some cases they will call you using voip apps that allow them to make free calls like GNum. Their connection will be bad, and you'll need to pay roaming charges.

I tried asok to MBK by uber at 1am from Singapore.

Uber is 88-109 baht and Uber black is 129-156 baht. 5minutes waiting time.

It a 12 mins ride. Even Uber black don't seem expensive
