yup. they are still in the early stage where grab/uber disrupts the taxi business. i think their taxi drivers are feeling the pinch given the continuous month long promo that grab/uber is running, giving out subsidised rides.

imo, it's only practical to just take a cab than to book for grab/uber if the private hire vehicle has to come through jams to pick you up, BUT we choose grab/uber because of its pricing and to avoid the hassle of negotiating with taxi drivers.

I usually compare fares using Grabtaxi app and uber app in BKK. whichever is cheaper , just book. both can pay by cash no worries. Do learn some basic thai to communicate with the drivers, be it Uber or taxi.....
