UNISIM VS UOL RECOGNITION

I'm a fresh poly graduate and i'm debating whether to take up accounting and finance in UNISIM or UOL. Hence, i need advice on which uni is more recognized in Singapore and which has better employment prospects.

Well, that's difficult to say. I would say that both of them are pretty much on par. And I believe for Unisim, theres only Accountancy or Finance. No accounting and finance. However, UOL does have accounting and finance degree. So choose UOL if this is what you really want. Additionally, Unisim degrees at part-time whereas UOL is full-time. Although I do think that the number of hours and the amount learnt is pretty much the same. However, Unisim allows you to work in the day, this gives you an opportunity to work in a relevant field while getting your degree, hence, you will come out ahead of your peers when you graduate.

I think Unisim also requires 2 years working experience. If you dont have, they will reject you. You can use NS as working experience as well.

The next question would be your career direction. If you wish to go into accounts and work locally, the Unisim BSc Accountancy degree allows you to take the public accountant Professional Examination (PE) direct, which previously only accountancy degree holders were from NUS, NTU and SMU were able to take. For UOL degree, you would have to take on additional papers before taking this PE (e.g. taking up ACCA after the degree course).

ACCA allow one like NUS, NTU, SMU & UniSIM to skip ICPAS PE & clock 3 years of experiences to get CPA Sg in order to be a public accountant.

Recognized overseas accounting Degree (Distance Learning or Oncampus) needs to take 5 papers of ICPAS PE & clock 3 years of experiences to get CPA Sg in order to be a public accountant.

Non-Recognized overseas accounting Degree (Distance Learning or Oncampus) needs to take ACCA to skip ICPAS PE & clock 3 years of experiences to get CPA Sg because it does not make scene to take up another Recognized overseas accounting Degree with 5 papers of ICPAS PE just to get CPA Sg in order to be a public accountant when you are already an accounting degree graduate.

However CPS Sg will fade out & now we talk bout Chartered Accountant Singapore.

UOL is without a doubt a better choice.
no aussie would view RMIT as a top-tier school.

looking at the programme structure,
if you want to be an accountant/auditor i will suggest RMIT
if you want to be diverse then go for UOL since they teach u both accounting and finance, but not a specialist in either.

Yeah, UOL is in high regard in UK. But not UOL-DL. And even if you did do the degree on-campus, it does matter which school you come from. UCL, KCL, LSE are probably the only 3 unis in the top 100 in the 18 colleges part of UOL. Things is, the UK has about 13 universities in the world's top 100. If you are part of this 13, yeah, they will hold you in high regard. But if not, I dont think so. In their minds, this is how they will rank you, Top 13 universities in UK, followed by the other 15 colleges part of UOL that are not in the top 100 rankings, then followed by UOL-DL. So that puts you on number 29 of their mental rankings.

Im not trying to disregard the good that is borne out of UOL-DL or their graduates. Im just trying to prove a point.

Employers want to know how students deal with such questions rather than indicating their displeasure at the mode of study. This is the perfect opportunity for students to impress the prospective employer by describing the skills that they have developed studying Externally and describing the added motivation and determination required to study Externally.]

Ya right. Blame it on the graduates when they cannot find job & say it is their credit when graduates become high profile professionals & etc.

[The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced that the under-listed “Universities” have not been licensed by the Federal Government and are, therefore, operating illegally in violation of Education (National Minimum Standards etc) Act CAP E3 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

List number 30) London External Studies UK operating anywhere in Nigeria.

The statement also added that “For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronizes or obtains any certificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk. Certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognized for the purposes of NYSC, employment, and further studies. The relevant Law enforcement agencies have also been informed for their further necessary action.”]
