Yes, it is harsh on me when I grow older & become more resourceful to found out about the ugly world when I thought I am really stupid as what the teachers say to me & my fellow EM3 classmates but we are being shortchange because we make a mistake at the age of 10 year old.

This is not fair to us!

Few decades have pass & whenever I discuss about education system like Pri Sch, Sec Sch, ITE & etc, I cannot forgive & forget the past which make me feel frustration, sad, hurt, angry because of that stupid education system that some f.u.c.k.e.r Scholar, Minister, government official & etc have created it & ruined my life.

i guess the PSLE is too harsh for you.

once i was an O level student and i met a N level student while working part-time.

4-5 years down the road, she eventually finished her N level, O level, diploma and made it to NUS. On the other hand, i went to a JC and was denied a placing to any local uni due to bad grading.

The education system made it in such a way that once u fail at certain critical stage, you are gone. no second chance, you will have to walk a longer path.

kyoji, basically u failed your primary 4 streaming exams as simple as that.

But u are right to say that at that age, who will be serious ab their studies.

You look thru the O levels and NT N levels syllabus before and obviously the NT N level syllabus is so much easier that is why u deduce it to be crap.

Hence, I may reasonably deduce that if u study for an easier syllabus u would find the concepts easier to grasp right? That is the whole point of NT N levels. So that the weaker students will not struggle with the difficultly of O Levels.

And more importantly, u should find it easier to score well and get promoted back to NA stream.

This time round merely a pass of 50 marks is not sufficient as the NT N levels syllabus is way way much easier, which you had concluded yourself.

Anyway, why must go all the way to Higher NITEC? NITEC can go poly liao.

nonono kyoji u are not short-changed at all.

u failed ur pri 4 streaming exams hence u couldn't take the full set of subjects at PSLE as compared to those whom passed.

Look, after u are streamed into a different stream which is much easier. Did u noticed that u didn't fail anything?

Did u put in a lot of effort for ur NT N levels and ITE studies?

Then why do we have to learn science in Pri 5 &6 which we gone though the trouble of tests & exams?

I am willing to struggle with the difficultly of O Levels since it is a win win situation to me.

1) Opportunity to be competent.
2) Opportunity to go Poly/JC.
3) Opportunity to go Higher Nitec if score is not good.
4) Remain the same to go Nitec in the worst scenarios when I fail compare to NT GCE N graduate who pass to enter NITEC.

And more importantly, u should find it easier to score well and get promoted back to NA stream.

Problem is does the information available to students & parents? Does the teachers & principals encourage the parents or even the students themselves to move up to NA from NT? Does the teachers & principals allow students to be promoted to NA from NT? These are the factors that prevent us from happening.

This time round merely a pass of 50 marks is not sufficient as the NT N levels syllabus is way way much easier, which you had concluded yourself.

50 marks? I score average of 60 marks & some even 70 marks during my Sec Sch time. After I graduate for a very long time before I hear that we MUST get all subjects with 75 marks in order to enter NA steam. It is unreasonable. If you set it at 50 or 60 marks will be reasonable.

Anyway, why must go all the way to Higher NITEC? NITEC can go poly liao.

In the first place, who will want to use a NITEC to enter Higher NITEC when he/she can used it to study Poly Dip?

Yes, NITEC can go Poly but depend on your result (GPA) in your cohort which is something like Poly applying for Uni.

If you score GPA 3.8 but the rest of your cohort got GPA 3.9 mean you will be heading to Higher Nitec.

If you fail your Sec 2 Science Subject at School level, is it fair not to let you go for Science Subject at GCE O (National) level at Sec 4?

Look, after u are streamed into a different stream which is much easier. Did u noticed that u didn't fail anything?

Does that mean I should be competent to be consider to move on to NA level?

Did u put in a lot of effort for ur NT N levels and ITE studies?

The answer is no since we have been educated that as long as we pass GCE N, we can enter ITE which I did cause my result is good to choice any ITE Nitec courses. We are also educated that as long as we pass ITE, we can go Poly which I learn the hard way that it is wrong. Score do matter.

Kyoji, basically the problem here is that the government streams kids way too early at the age of 10 at the Pri 4 streaming exams.

The only problem here is this.

Thereafter, to get promoted back to the NA or express stream at Sec 1/2 is a little bit quite early as well as the child is still a kid.

No child is serious about their studies at age 10-14.

You are right on this point.

Subsequently, if the child fail to get promoted back to the NA stream after Sec 1/2, the only way to "equalize" is to do well at ITE(Nitec) and cross-over back to Poly.

Instead of heading over to the ITEs, maybe what is more feasible here is to implement a new system whereby the top NT N levels students head over to the Polys and do the foundation year after their N levels at the end of Sec 4.(The government is doing this for NA N levels students, I do hope that they do something similar for NT N levels students as well)

I guess this new system would be much more relevant.

All in all, you just have to strive hard at ITE and head over to the Polys. Please don't blame the teachers or anybody else. >.< It is just you yourself that did not study hard at ITE and you can only blame yourself and it is certainly not the fault of your teachers or anybody else.

Srry if I may sound harsh.

I welcome this new system.

1) It ok cause it is the true that I do not strive hard since information given to me is wrong in the first place to make my decision.

2) However I do blame on the source given wrongly to me which is the school & teachers.

3) At ITE, I am a School Representative for my CCAs & my teacher share with us why should we buy toto & 4D. Lol =P

I felt that Pri 4 might be a bit too early but PSLE to stream students into express/NA is appropriate in my opinion.

It is true that at a age of 10-14, many might still not be interested in studies. But, through the streaming, we can identify the possible talents in the cohort. Let's face it, a smart guy will score higher than average when he simply put in 50% of the effort. Without aptitude, you still gonna fail with 100% effort. The world is unfair and I realize it myself. Someone is just going to get that math sum correct and sum will never.

I believe we have all been students and that's why I felt that the current system works well. You compare a express class to a NT class, do you see the difference? Was majority of the students in the rightful streams? I am afraid yes. So, do you wish your child to be in a mixed class if he is smart and capable? No, you are probably hindering his future which could have been brighter with the right environment and exposure.

That's the meaning behind the education system, one which caters to students of different learning abilities and speed so that potential can be maximized.

In that case, Govt & MOE should give a fair ground to compete with for PSLE instead of shortchange EM3 student 1 subject in PSLE which affect the total results to enter Sec Sch steam.

In that case, why do Govt & MOE group EM1 calibre together with EM2 calibre to form Foundation Class now?

Do this mean that Govt & MOE are hindering EM2 student's future which could have been brighter with the right environment and exposure in EM2 Class instead of Foundation Class?

So is Govt & MOE still fair to caters to students of different learning abilities and speed so that potential can be maximized?

--------------------------------------------------------

I believe I am in a better position to represent myself & give a more better gauge since I understand & gone though EM3 PSLE/NT GCE N/ITE Nitec/GCE O & etc path.

I don't think I am hindering my future because no matter how I reassign it, I will be brighter with the right environment and exposure in Express class instead of NT class.

Now I wonder what UOL have to say about country like Nigeria do not recognize UOL external degree for employment?

[The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced that the under-listed “Universities” have not been licensed by the Federal Government and are, therefore, operating illegally in violation of Education (National Minimum Standards etc) Act CAP E3 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

List number 30) London External Studies UK operating anywhere in Nigeria.

The statement also added that “For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronizes or obtains any certificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk. Certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognized for the purposes of NYSC, employment, and further studies. The relevant Law enforcement agencies have also been informed for their further necessary action.”]

==============
Hi Kyoji83,

Perhaps you have mistaken London External Studies for UOL International Programmes (or the formal UOL External System).

See page 2 and page 22 of triple w nuc.edu.ng/nucsite/File/Monday%20Bulletin/MB%202012/16%20July,%202012%20vetted.pdf
If you have realised, NUC addressed University of London as it is.

Also, official names for unaccredited universities would be put up as, in this case, London External Studies UK. Notice the name is capitalised. If NUC was stating external studies with the University of London in general, then it would be stated formally as, e.g., external studies with the University of London, or University of London External System.
