Hey guys, currently I'm using 2 sticks of 4gb ram and this was setup back in 2011.

I'm using Biostar TH67+ and would like to know whether can i purchase 1 stick of 8gb ram to increase to 16gb as I feel that my PC is lagging.

The ram that I'm using is Kingston PC3-10700, does that mean I can go to SLS to get the same Kingston PC3-10700 8gb ram and slot into the motherboard?

Thanks in advance.

You can buy a 8 GB stick to increase your RAM to 16 GB. It need not be Kingston or even the same speed. The RAM speed and timings will be based on the slower of the 8 GB stick and your existing RAM.

btw it's rather unlikely that your PC is lagging because of 8 GB RAM. If you don't already have a SSD, suggest you get one instead of more RAM.

Ok. You were saying that the RAM speed and timings will be based on the slower of the 8gb stick.

So does that means that 16gb will not help?

Yes, I don't have a SSD. But I tried to free up my hdd but still lags a lot. Does the SSD really help?

yes the speed will base on the slower speed.

not say it does not help or it did, but still depends on which applications u are using, that has already hit the ram limits.

yes it does speed up your system boot up and as well as other software and applications, but not much in game beside loading speed.

I went from 8 GB to 16 GB and didn't really notice any difference even when running a very memory-intensive game. Get a SSD for your OS, it will make a big difference. The Zotac T500 240GB is around $70+ on Lazada after "SAFRAYAY" for $10 off.

Can try CCleaner clean out useless files lying around and the Windows registry. Then do a disk defrag if it is badly fragmented. All these are free. :)

If still cannot then consider hardware upgrading.

Most likely a cluttered OS, reinstall Windows work wonders in this case. And if you are still on Windows 7, take this opportunity to do a clean install upgrade to Windows 10.

PC lagging first thing to change- hard disk to a ssd. Not ram, not processor.

Not sure whether upgrading to windows 10 will cause my applications to malfunction. Thus still holding back on this for the time being.

I have the same motherboard and yes, it does support 8gb ram modules.

But the lagging problem may not be due to your ram.
