Now undecided between this 2...

my dad doesnt want me to go, say oz degree & sim degree no diff when looking for jobs. my bf also dont want me to go cause he think is waste of money.

my cousin say, oz degree & sim degree got quite a big diff. my aunties & god mum & lecturers encouraging me to go cause they think is better education + good experience.

any advice on which one i should go?

whether go UQ or go SIMGE(RMIT), most likely both sides also 1.5 years after exemptions...

financial side my mum got leave college fund for me + my aunties say they will top up if not enough (but i feel very bad if they have to top up)

:(

if SIM, then will start school in jan 2014

if go UQ will apply for july 2014, or jan 2015 cause i got a senior who's planning to go uq for that intake, so at least got friend stay tgt.

did uq offer u already?

wats the exemption?
if got exemption, u see the time:money balance lo.

if faster get degree=faster go into work, can "offset" the money.

if the time abt the same, then u muz decide between the overseas or SIM degree "recognition".

I would say if go UQ study, it is "Better" as you will have the overseas experiences.
In your field, i not sure about the recognition of overseas vs local (SIM,etc) degree.

i think on campus Go8 unis definitely better than SIM. tier 2 unis then i think about the same.

if you feel bad abt aunties having to top up, then do your best for your studies.:)

why go later if you can go earlier? come on, be independent, you can make a whole lot of new friends there and be a senior to your senior later.

Ts i got friend studied at University of Queensland in total spent $300,000 for the degree. I can said you can said you gain so called cultural experience at australia. But, what your dad mention is right SIM is cheaper in a way you can study like 1.5 years in Singapore then after that asked SIM Singapore for campus transfer at RMIT for six months and do your last semester over there. My girlfriend did that she said cheaper. But, of course there are other countries like europe countries they give a lot of sponsership to foreginers who study at their country. A four years degree at germany can be only $50,000-$$60,000sgd that include your degree fees, accomdation, monthly grocery for makan and others. Hope it helps.

In general it is better to study a on-campus degree. UQ and UNISIM will be a better choice in this aspect. I don't agree that your mentioned "overseas experience" is a kind of relevant experience if you relate to future employment.

If budget is a concern, then SIM might be a better choice. If you choose SIM distance learning related course, its better to have work experiences to tag with.

As soon as u leave sg does distance matter?
Still cannot see BF. If u complain about time zone issue hard to meet in the week, weekdays student focus on study just make weekend work.
London is a financial hub much like sg, oz... No financial hub.
Does it matter, helps to a certain extend.
Europe can have fun shopping, branded cheaper (ie LV, Prada, Burberry etc) than oz and sg. Short breaks can go shopping spree in Italy or France. Or make some $$ for that matter.
Esp when $$ is an issue and u don't feel comfortable using relative $$ why not be sensible and stretch the dollar?

Your gf went from sim what to overseas? Sim-RMIT to RMIT? That's common
Germany it's 3 yrs degree not 4. Living expenses is ~€800 a mth or sgd$17k a yr add tuition and insurance ~sgd$20k a yr.
The thing is one need to read and write German.

The old system it's 6 yrs masters, no real terminal Bach concept. Read

IMO most employers dont have a high regard for oz unis tbh. Other than Umelb and ANU, the rest are still seen as second to the local unis just like SIM degrees. Not to mention you'll be paying quite a hefty sum for your education. Although SIM's degrees are DL, the difference in starting salary between you and an SIM grad wont be much, I doubt there would even be a difference. If your major is finance, you should honestly just stay in sg and go to SIM. Like mentioned above, oz is not a financial hub, especially not UQ. If your major has something to do with biological sciences or marine science, then go UQ would be good. But finance might as well stay here. Unisim is an even cheaper choice. But thats if you are okay with part-time study.

If i am u, i would just study in SIM. UQ is not going to make you a vast difference compared to SIM graduate more so in the future when you have more working experience. However that does not mean you should not pursue overseas education if you can afford it. Look for mid-tier UK school like University of Bath, Cass or even Hongkong university sci of technology, they are better regarded than aussie universities in the eye of employers...

applied for HR previously and got 1.5yrs exemption. my friend applied for finance also got 1.5 yrs exemption. SIM RMIT recognizes my course as biz dip so will be 1.5 years also.

i'm quite uncertain about the field to enter, but cousin encourage me to go banking cause got good prospects..

haha yeah, if go will go for july intake lo, think a bit too late for jan intake by the time i decide and convince my dad&bf etcetc.

want to go uk but both side of family are against it -.- if i work in public sector, then it makes a diff right? let's say after 2-3 years of working exp.. then i have a SIM-RMIT cert vs i have a on campus oz cert/hk uni cert?

okay will go check out hk uni! thank you

Perhaps they think like u... U just need to reason it if I are really keen. Back in my time parents only want kids to go uk, oz still fairly new and uk cost a whole lot. It's the reverse now.
Bf and dad planning to fly freq to spot check? If not why does distance matter?

Public sector honors does affect salary grade. 2nd upper naturally get paid more than a general Bach.
Private sector no diff.
Teach, police etc all publish the diff
Ie

Hk uni biz at top uni are pretty competitive.

I would do well and go uofmelb to read finance honors.
Better use of $$ then go to finish up Bach

Or do a commerce degree in sg at a GO8 then go over to read honors

if wanna do campus transfer at SIM, rather you take the more reputable unis DL degrees like Manchester and Birmingham and transfer there (by merit), but then its UK. these two i heard also hv a cut off of 3.0 +/- gpa at SIM.

Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education Centre (NAA)

actually can't quite decide to go management or finance..

NAA management vs SIM-RMIT management cert any difference? will i be able to go on to honors with both cert? (honors is i have to apply separately or is it tgt with the school? if i were to study DL and finish up honors in oz. no diff if i go to either sch and go for honors?)

tried to apply uni of melb but unable to get in, i think gpa too low for their intake :(

hopefully :( i think if i study in sg, then finish up 1 year honors in oz they more likely to agree?
bf says is up to me altho i can tell he quite reluctant to see me go oz for full degree duration (1.5 years) lol. he say if i study finance or what overseas is ok but no point if im studying management :o

my cousin say, oz degree & sim degree got quite a big diff. my aunties & god mum & lecturers encouraging me to go cause they think is better education + good experience.

any advice on which one i should go?

whether go UQ or go SIMGE(RMIT), most likely both sides also 1.5 years after exemptions...

financial side my mum got leave college fund for me + my aunties say they will top up if not enough (but i feel very bad if they have to top up)

:(

if SIM, then will start school in jan 2014

if go UQ will apply for july 2014, or jan 2015 cause i got a senior who's planning to go uq for that intake, so at least got friend stay tgt.

Tuition fees are increasing every year. Why wait for someone you know to go together? You will make new friends when you go away. Kinda duh to wait for someone to go study together. If waiting for partner (bf/gf) still ok.

Save your money. You seem like you can't go overseas and live alone (be independent). So the experience may not make any difference to you. A degree from UQ will not do much wonders in terms of career and prospects.

U need a 3.2-3.3 to go umelb with no exemptions cost way more than UQ. 3.5 or so to get 1 yr.
Adelaide is GO8, RMIT not GO8. Better uni may give u an edge and oz degree, if u do real well can skip honors to do masters. Go uk do masters in good uni just read an additional yr.
U can go for honors with either cert why do u want both? U have to apply separately much like what u did today, u think ucas I application can hit 5 unis and direct honors? Lol

Uofmelb honors for finance only takes 10-20 students each intake. So without great grades no chance.

Bf doing what now? So expert...
Buddy did management in UWA went off to LSE to do finance masters, not worth it?? Humm..
Aiyoh in a relationship who not reluctant? See it as a test loh.., meant to be go for 2 yrs also ok, not meant to be stay also like that. U have to see what u value in life, when u settle down u want to become housewife and let so make the big $$. Or if u seeking equal earning power?

It's best for u to stay and go for the major u like. Ppl tell u go finance but do u have the chops to make big $$. If not stick to what u do best. Dad and bf against and u don't have the mindset to reason how to make the best use if funds; stay do a degree some where and work part time. Grow up and them respect u then u can choose where u wanna go for higher degree.
