Snowflake IPO: Opportunity, Risk, And The Big Unknown
Aug. 31, 2020

Business
In simple terms, Snowflake allows companies to store all kinds of data from different sources in the cloud, and it also provides the capabilities to analyze such data and to easily access and share it from everywhere at any time.

Customers always have the choice of going to Snowflake or going directly to one of the big cloud players such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. The big advantage of Snowflake is that it is much more focused and it also provides the possibility to diversify among the big 3 in the public cloud, which gives customers more flexibility, more control, and perhaps some negotiating power.

Finances
The top-line numbers from Snowflake are truly outstanding, with quarterly revenue growing 121% last quarter. The revenue retention rate of 158% is exceptionally high,

Gross profit margin is in the neighborhood of 61.5% of revenue, which is not particularly high at all. Gross margin has increased over time and can probably increase a bit more due to scale in the future,

the company made less than $149 million in gross profit and it spent $190.5 million in sales and marketing alone during the six months period ended in July.

AT&T Again Exploring a Deal for DirecTV
Aug. 28, 2020

AT&T executives have previously explored parting with DirecTV assets, including a potential spinoff or combining assets with rival Dish Network Corp ., but obstacles, including antitrust concerns, have gotten in the way.

A private-equity buyer could avoid those regulatory concerns. AT&T is looking to sell just over 50% of the asset, which would allow the telecom giant to take a fast-shrinking business off its books while still enjoying the benefits of a still-large distribution network, some of the people said.

Dividend Aristocrat Performance: August 2020
Sep. 2, 2020

posted a respectable 4.02% total return in August, but again lagged the broad S&P 500 (SPY) as the increasingly tech heavy market benchmark powered higher. The move pushes the Dividend Aristocrat Index close to flat on the year (-1.2%) while the S&P 500 is now up close to 10% (9.7%).

Over the last thirty-plus years, the dividend growth strategy has bested the broad market index by 1.7% per year.

Colgate-Palmolive Company plans to invest $1.2M in Cambridge facility
September 2, 2020

The investment comes as a result of increased demand for liquid hand soap during the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization has reported that regularly cleaning hands is one of the most important steps an individual can make towards slowing the spread of the virus. Sales of liquid hand soap and sanitizers have surged across the U.S. and several international markets.

Colgate-Palmolive is one of the premier employers in Guernsey County, with over 300 full-time equivalent jobs paying above-average wages and offering outstanding benefits. The Cambridge facility manufactures cleaners, dish detergents, fabric conditioners and liquid hand soap.

Forget Johnson & Johnson, AbbVie Is a Better Dividend Stock
Sep 1, 2020

AbbVie's dividend yield is much higher -- and likely to stay that way
Today, J&J pays its shareholders a quarterly dividend of $1.01 for an annual yield of 2.6%, which is well above the S&P 500 average of 2%. AbbVie, however, pays a quarterly dividend of $1.18, which annually yields over 5% at current share prices. This is significantly higher than J&J's yield, such that if you were to invest $10,000 in both stocks, AbbVie's annual payouts would be $240 higher. Even if you factor in each company's historical dividend growth, that gap isn't likely to narrow.

AbbVie's dividend is at less risk in the long-term
Another reason income investors should opt for AbbVie's dividend? It's growing, and not really at risk of slowing down.

On May 8, the company completed a $63 billion acquisition of Botox-maker Allergan. The move leaves AbbVie a more reliable long-term buy, as the deal diversified the pharma company's business. Currently, AbbVie relies on Humira, a biologic used to treat arthritis, psoriasis, and Crohn's disease for 50% of its sales. The deal with Allergan renders AbbVie's business opportunities safer, and makes room for the company to continue growing its dividend payouts at a high rate.
