With unique investments in content, community, and the cloud, Microsoft’s gaming strategy differs from others by empowering people to play the games they want, with the people they want, anywhere they want. PE Completes Acquisition of SD-WAN Leader Silver Peak
September 21, 2020

Silver Peak will become a part of Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company. The acquisition will strengthen Aruba ESP (Edge Services Platform), helping to advance enterprise cloud transformation with a comprehensive edge-to-cloud networking solution covering all aspects of wired, wireless local area networking (LAN) and wide area networking (WAN).

Enterprises are increasingly investing in SD-WAN technologies as legacy WAN architectures incur relatively high costs and are cumbersome to operate. Aruba and Silver Peak share a common vision and goal to provide simplicity, scalability, and application-awareness at the edge.

NHRA Sues Coca-Cola for Missing Payment, Pulling Out of Sponsorship Deal
SEP 22, 2020

"Recently, Coca-Cola had a change of heart, and told us they would walk away from their agreement to sponsor our professional series—not at the end of 2023, as promised in their agreement, but now, after being with us since 2002. We’re deeply disappointed that they’ve taken this position."

So disappointed, in fact, that Cromwell said that the series has filed a lawsuit in California.

"NHRA has always treated our sponsors as part of our family. Family sticks together when times get tough," Cromwell said. "But it seems The Coca-Cola Company is using the pandemic as an opportunity to break their promise. We can’t let that stand. We owe it to everyone who makes the NHRA so excellent—all our employees, teams, tracks, fans, partners and sponsors—to hold Coca-Cola to its promises.

Carbon Tax Scenario Creates a Bullish Angle on Exxon Mobil Stock
Sep 24, 2020

It’s not difficult to imagine that regulators will, sooner or later, make it more expensive for companies to pollute. But now, we have to connect the dots and explain how a carbon tax would benefit Exxon Mobil.

Dan Clifton of Strategas Research Partners observed that integrated oil giants have actually been lobbying for a carbon tax. Their intention is to cause fossil-fuel product prices to go up.

This, in turn, would increase the production costs for small fracking companies, effectively pricing them out of the market. Call it playing hardball if you’d like, but it’s a potentially winning strategy for bigger oil and gas producers like Exxon Mobil.

Considering the tiny yield and overall limited medium-term return potential, we believe that investors are likely to find more fruitful investment cases both in terms of income and in terms of total returns elsewhere.

Oracle generated record profits during 2020, and 2021 will likely be an even better year for the company. Right now, shares trade around our fair value estimate, which is why we rate Oracle a buy.

We are forecasting 13.9% annual total returns despite the low-growth outlook for the company, primarily due to the low valuation and high yield. Given the high yield and favorable price-to-earnings ratio, we rate China Mobile a buy.

A Biden Victory And Split Congress Is Best For Stocks, But Here’s What Would Kill Markets After Election Night
Sep 10, 2020

Scenario 1: Status Quo
If Trump wins, Republicans hold the Senate and Democrats remain in control of the House, then markets will likely rally 3% to 5% on “no new news,” predicts wealth management firm Hightower Advisors.

Scenario 2: Blue Wave
If Biden wins, Democrats take control of the Senate and retain the House then the market will likely see an initial sell-off of between 2% to 5%, according to Hightower. In this case, “we may actually see more of the Democratic policy changes enacted,” which include Biden’s promise to raise taxes, says Ross Hambrick, analyst for William Blair’s Dynamic Allocation Strategies Team.

Scenario 3: Biden Wins, But Republicans Hold The Senate
“This would be the friendliest to the markets as it would likely mean gridlock,” says Hightower, predicting that stocks could rally between 4% and 5% on the result.

Scenario 4: Delayed Election Results
The worst outcome for the stock market is delayed or disputed election results. Several factors could lead to contested results, especially given the rise in mail-in ballots as the coronavirus keeps many people from voting in-person.

The last time presidential election results were held up was in 2000, when votes were so tight in Florida that a recount was initiated by the state. The election wasn’t fully decided until a Supreme Court decision on December 12, five weeks after Americans cast their vote. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 plunged nearly 10% and the Nasdaq plummeted roughly 20% by the end of November.

Three Takeaways for Traders from a Debacle of a US Presidential Debate
September 30, 2020
When it comes to markets, there are three major takeaways for traders from the debate debacle:

1) Biden Rejected Being Labeled as a Leftist
2) Initial Polls Suggest Biden “Won” the Debate (But Really Everyone Lost)
3) Trump’s Continued Aspersions on the Legitimacy of the Election Raise the Risk of Election Night (Week?) Chaos

Moving forward, traders are likely to key on economic data more than political developments, with the focus shifting to Friday’s highly-anticipated Non-Farm Payrolls report sooner rather than later.

Here's the secret to surviving an unstable stock market: Long-term investments
Oct 2, 2020

Investing for the long-term can save you money – and stress
The stock market is unpredictable, even for the experts. It's almost impossible to predict exactly when stock prices will rise or fall, making it extremely challenging to time the market. Buying or selling at the wrong time can be a costly mistake, too, not to mention the stress involved.

When you buy and hold your investments, though, you don't have to worry as much about short-term volatility. After all, if you're not planning on selling your investments anytime soon, it won't matter what the market does right now. So even if stock prices are in a free fall, you can simply sit back and wait for your investments to recover.

The key to long-term investing is ensuring you're investing in the right places. If you throw all your money into an up-and-coming stock and that company doesn't survive a market crash, you'll be out of luck. But if you invest in solid long-term companies that have proven track records of surviving tough economic times, it's more likely your investments will pull through.

8 Common Investing Mistakes to Avoid: A Cheat Sheet
Sep 28, 2020

Anchoring or Confirmation Bias: We like to have our opinions confirmed by others, especially so-called experts. Because of this, we will search and find information, data and analysis that will confirm our opinion.
Gambler’s Fallacy: There is a tendency among people to think that when a coin has been tossed five times and it lands on heads five times it is much more likely to land on tails the next time. This is totally incorrect.
Hindsight Theory: When we look back over history, we tell ourselves that we knew something was going to happen before it did. The internet bubble that burst in 2001 is a powerful example. Everyone now claims that they saw it coming.
Rearview-mirror Effect: We tend to be most influenced by what has happened recently instead of what is happening right now. As the market goes higher, individuals (and institutions – after all, mutual funds and hedge funds are run by humans) tend to become more and more bullish
Self-attribution Bias: We have a tendency to congratulate ourselves for our own brilliance when we succeed, but blame outside influences for our failures.
Disposition Effect Bias: One of the worst tendencies of investors is to sell winners far too soon and hold on to losing stocks.
Familiarity Bias: This happens when an investor focuses on familiar or well-known investments even though more gains can be made through diversification.
Trend-chasing Bias: Past performance does not indicate future success. So, just because a company did well in the past does not mean that that trend will continue.

UNITED KINGDOM: TOTAL ACQUIRES LONDON’S LARGEST ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGE POINTS NETWORK
September 29, 2020

Total has signed the acquisition of ‘Blue Point London’ from the Bolloré Group. With this transaction, Total is taking over the management and operation of Source London, the largest electric vehicle charging network citywide, which includes more than 1,600 on-street charge points.

Launched in 2010, the current Source London network has been developed in cooperation with the London Boroughs and currently represents more than half of the charge points in operation in the capital city. Source London growth perspectives are supported by the City of London’s ambition to be a zero carbon city by 2050, notably with the aim of increasing tenfold the number of charge points within five years.

Total is also committed to powering this charging network with electricity 100% guaranteed from renewable sources, to be supplied by its subsidiary Total Gas & Power Limited.
