Understand that most people will avoid the East Coast (especially New York) during the Christmas period but I am toying with the idea of heading there for a short trip (maybe around ten to eleven days) between 20-31 December. Is that a senseless proposition? :s22:

Hi,

Need to check something on Hotwire bookings.

1. Will we be able to know what's the bedding for the rooms that we book? Eg: double bed, king or queen

2. Can we request for non smoking room?

Thanks all in advance!

Too long never book from hotwire already, my info might be outdated / wrong.

1) Should be able to put in request, but not guaranteed. Usually should have good chance of getting your preferred room type as these hotels are usually quite empty.

2) Request, yes. Might not be guaranteed though.

Not always. The hotel might list it on the room listing, but they won't always. If you want to guarantee what you'll get, the best way is to call the hotel, tell them "hi I saw your rate on Hotwire but I'd rather book through you directly, could you match the rate?".

(Of course this doesn't work if you're using Hotwire's blind booking, but then you need to accept that you won't know what you'll get.)

For cirque du soleil shows, which is the must watched? I realised that there are a couple of them.
I've only seen Michael Jackson One, but it was terrific. If you like Jacko it's worth the ticket price.

I caught O when I was in Vegas like 4 years back. It was a water themed performance so there were some high falls into water. Pretty amazing stuff.

You're spoiled for choice with things to do on those two days.

Here's a few outdoor ideas:

* Red Rock Canyon
* Hoover Dam
* Valley of Fire
* Zion National Park (it's 2.5 hours' drive each way but it's totally worth it, and you can hit the Valley of Fire on the way there or back).

And a few indoor ideas:

* Breakfast at the Wicked Spoon buffet in the Cosmopolitan;
* The Shark Reef aquarium at the Mandalay Bay;
* The Fine Art Gallery at the Bellagio;
* A little bit of light shopping at Crystals in the Aria complex;
* Ride the gondolas at the Venetian;
* Have lunch by the faux-Trevi Fountain at Caesars;
* Catch the Deuce bus to downtown (the "old Strip") and walk along the old-style neon of Fremont Street.

Thanks. I saw a few tour company combining GC tour with hoover dam in it. Mayb i will go for that. I am not driving so depending on the tour compy for the transport to and fro national parks.
Am travelling in dec this year, solo. I saw the grand adventures offering the GC tours; for first timer, shd i go for the winter walking sunset tour or the skywalk tour? Both tours offer photo stop at hoover dam.

Hi, for those who went US (Seattle) and Canada before, anything there is worth to buy (tidbits, souvenirs or something we canot find in SG)? Wan ask someone to help me buy if not ex.

And, is timberland things over there a lot cheaper? Or can jus buy online with free shipping fee?

Thanks!

Seattle and Canada u can get their smoked salmon in a box.
Different from the thin sliced smoked salmon here.
Canada also has good maple syrup.
While there, try the fresh local fruit nd seafood like peach, cherries, halibut, salmon, black cod.

Timberland can be very cheap there.
But havent been shopping that brand lately so dont know how much online discounts are.

Another thing u can get is specialized honey like Lavender Honey or Wildflower honey etc.
The locals often have different types of honey for sale at a good price.
Not expensive unlike here in sg.

Seattle is quite famous for their local seafood and produce which won't be suitable for buying back. Only souvenir is maybe some item from the first Starbucks store.

As for Canada, if your friend can go to the supermarket, can get them to buy the maple cookies or golden Oreo. Make sure the golden Oreo is made by Nabisco and not Kraft.

Seattle downtown a bit small compared to Singapore. Didnt see Timberland store, but saw other popular brands there. If you want shopping deals, your friend need to head to Seattle Premium Outlet about 1 hr north of the city. A casino bus offer a round trip ride for $10, plus free buffet and some poker chip offer Tulalip Luxeline

If you're into historical memorabilia there's this store located in Pike Place Market which sell all kind of old stuff - newspaper article, vintage ads, vintage Playboy mags($15-$75) dating to the 60s etc

There's a washington state produce store at seattle airport if your friend is departing from seattle...ideal for last minute purchase so dont have to lug around so many stuff

So I'm not a huge Seattle guru - I went there once, and that was like five years ago - but I'm reliably informed that Seattle and Vancouver (especially Vancouver) are great places for Pacific Northwest Indian and First Nations art and artifacts.

Have a browse through the online catalogues at Coastal Peoples Fine Arts and Hill's Native Art, and get your friend to drop in on a few of these galleries in Vancouver.

In Seattle I'm not so sure - mostly Mariners and Seahawks gear, I guess? Seattle's mostly a coffee town, but you don't want your friend to just bring you back, like, some coffee, that's not very exciting. This Yelp thread might give you some ideas.

I 100% guarantee the one here is different because I was happy at first but when I tasted it locally, Pui. Note that there's 2 companies that make Oreos. Nabisco and Kraft. Kraft one really sucks so I've tried both.

Will be visiting Atlanta from 13th to early Oct. Driving down all the way to Key West so will be staying at Orlando and Miami.

Is there anything that I should not miss out?

Sometime is very strange. I always buy back M&M. The taste is quite different from those you bought in Singapore. Other then that, nothing is special.

If I am booking a hotel on Hotwire, should I use the local website (which charges in SGD) or the US website (which charges in USD)?
