Frankly, not a whole lot to do in Chicago.
Are u coming from other parts of the usa?

They have some rather good museums though.
Two of the main ones are grouped together with the aquarium nearby.
Worth going.

Lincoln park area has a mini beach n park with some shopping n restaurants.
It is in the north part of town.

Millennium Park is near the waterfront at downtown Chicago. Has some sculptures n such but other than that, not that interesting.

If u like waterparks, there is one north of Chicago i think.

Food wise, they are famous for steaks and pizza.
Quite a few decent restaurants around.
Italian food is not bad too.

Chicago stadium(basketball), wrigley field(baseball) and whatever the name of the football stadium.
In June only baseball season is ongoing.

Just stay away from the south n west part of Chicago though... they are like killing zones.
Homicide rates are very high nowadays there.

Hi! I am planning to visit Chicago in mid-June for 3-5days, anyone has itineraries to share with me or are there any places that I cannot miss there?
Thank you :)

Hi thank you all for your replies! really appreciate them a lot :)

I would be flying to Newark (New Jersey) and I intended to take a domestic flight to travel for a few days before my work starts. I shortlisted a few states and thought Chicago would be interesting, but after hearing about the shooting cases from you guys, I thought I shouldn't take the risk:( afterall, i dont want to return home dead

Apart from NYC, are there any states you would recommend for first time solo-traveller to visit?

Newark also high in shooting ranked 14! U flying in there to get killed?
If u want to see Niagara Falls need to fly many fly into Buffalo New York, oh buffalo also ranked high in on the charts!

It's silly u think this way, Chicago only 50mi2 smaller than Singapore.
who wanna live in Chicago if so easy end up dead? Bright prof at uni of Chicago get escorted by security all the time? Too much Hollywood?

Which state u want to visit? You just mention a city in New York State and a city in Illinois. State is big like many south east Asia countries. Seeing a city say JB does not mean you see Malaysia. Well for some ppl it's certainly the case. Bangkok Thailand, Tokyo Japan what's the diff. Lol

U can try DC, niagara falls, Boston.
If u drive, cn go to the seaside towns too.

Since u are in newark, no point going to Chicago.

As long as u stick to tourist areas n dont stay out late at night, most places are ok.
Too many crazy gun toting ppl in amerika.

I second this. The homicide rate might be high, but not exceedingly high (like war zone). I always give the example that people also die because they choke to death, or due to traffic accident, or even slip and fall while having a bath, or air crash etc. So if you look at all these statistics, are you going to stop eat? Stop crossing the road? Stop taking baths? or stop taking planes?

Distances are vast and transportation is costly. As Hisashiburi advised, visit Washington and Niagara Falls. There is no need to fly. No need to go all the way to Chicago. America is big and there are so many towns all over so the chance of you getting mixed up in a shooting incident is very remote. In any case, there is no way to know where such an incident will take place. Just free your mind and go.

Nothing much in Chicago really, u get cover in 2 days. Not much else to do in the neighboring Midwest states too. If you have 5 days why not do New York or LA or SF?

Chicago makan different from northeast in a way.
A lot of craft brewer, deep dish pizza. Junk hot dog.
Drink out you get to go Allen Edmond factory if you into make in USA shoes at a cheap price.

A lot great local coffee shop from the famous Intelligensia to bowtruss.
You get some of those in New York City too.

Otherwise up northeast stick to northeast coast! Seeing New York City doesn't mean you visited Maine, Vermont etc. u wanna do the normal Singaporean tourist would visit or go outside the norm? Ppl go niagara just to see waterfall as they not into wine. Then again niagara also so so, my parents went and go just like that! In their eyes no diff from the one at bird park lol.

What's interesting really subjective, what do you like

Would you mind listing your phone and Telco?
I'm going to try my S7 with T-mobile, though I already have a T-mobile mifi device, just lazy to carry 2 items around, if really not needed.

Hi all,

I have enough miles(about 100K) for a return flight from SG to amsterdam, or I do a SG to NY on economy flight, and a San Fran to SG on a business flight.

I have been to Europe twice, 1st to italy and this year to germany.

I cannot drive. lol.

So I'm thinking to stick to New York, Las Vagas(for grand canyon) and San Fran. is 21 days enough for those 3 cities. If I'm going Im planning 10 days in NY(with day trips to falls, boston and maybe washington), about 3/4 days in Las vegas, about 5/6 in San Fran.

Is it doable without a car?. and How much should i budget for this trip(exclude shopping)

not worth using miles for economy at all.
Use it only to upgrade classes or award flights on business or first.

Usually, newer phones will tend to have more LTE bands, but still not all. Also, having connection does not mean good coverage. Having LTE coverage means that at least 1 band matches with your phone, and usually might not be all the bands match, thus limiting LTE coverage.

Hmm, my S7 (sg telco set) works with T-mobile network, in fact, seems to have better performance than my old (like 5-6 years old) T-mobile mifi device. Getting decent speeds on my S7 in hotel room, with 4G, 2 bars, like 5Mbps down, and 9 Mbps up (my card is limited to 21Mbps). Using the (old) T-mobile wifi gives no coverage at all in my hotel room, wait like 2 mins, still searching for signal. Will report back on more tests when I get to a small town.

Seems like my Mifi Device might be outdated. It should be at least 2-3 years old, though I remember it giving 4G connections, the website did not say anything about 4G connections. According to unofficial reports, the SG S7 does support all T-mobile LTE frequencies, as samsung did not officially publish the LTE bands, unlike Apple.

I am cheap wouldn't use for upgrade since when I travel it's family of 4. Blow usd$8-10k on tickets and get upgrades or save that usd$8-10k, I choose the later end of day it's zero out from my bank lol
