Heading to the west coast in June for a 2+ week trip, planning to do highway one LA-SF-LA, SD and LV for 3 separate legs of the trip. Itinerary is pretty relaxed and hotels have been booked so thinking about what else is there to do there. Any recommendations?

Also what to buy back Sg? Thinking of Amazon at the moment.

What was plan already?
What do you want to bring home? Amazon u can get in Sg right? What so special...

Why not do a triangle type trip, eg la to sd to lv to sf to la.
This way, u wont have to backtrack.

Can see yosemite n other places along the way too.

Hi guys,

Need some advice. Will be in the North American region for about 4 months until 20 dec 2016. Thinking if I should extend my trip to experience the new year in NYC Times Square. But I'm not sure whether the experience will warrant the costs involved (accomm etc) to do so.

Anyone can provide advice if the experience is worth it? Or if there's anything special during christmas and new year period there?

P.S. I have been to NYC about twice for short trips (4-5 days).

What visa are you on? Can you just simply extend like that?

Yup cause I'll be in Canada the bulk of the time actually, so won't be in US for more than 90 days.

Does your flight to Canada involve a stopover in USA? Be advised that the 90 days allowance for VWP start from the moment u first enter/transit in USA and does not reset until u leave North America.. so if thats the case, u'll need a visa to enter USA after 4 months

I believe the VWP 90 days stops once you leave US. Just that is does not resets if you go to neighbouring countries. Like if you have used 10 days, if you go to Canada and back, then you have 80 days left. For ccjjxx to find out before planning for trip, please don't quote me on this.

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/visit/visa-waiver-program.html
If you are admitted to the United States under the VWP, you may take a short trip to Canada, Mexico, or a nearby island and generally be readmitted to the United States under the VWP for the remainder of the original 90 days granted upon your initial arrival in the United States. Therefore, the length of time of your total stay, including the short trip, must be 90 days or less.

Has anyone here ever compiled a list of places to eat in New York and DC?

Honestly, your best bet is Yelp. It's incredibly comprehensive, and even the tiniest little hole-in-the-wall joint will have hundreds of reviews, especially in the big cities.

Yeah, I would have done that slightly differently - in June, you can go from LA-SF on Highway 1, then cut across through Yosemite and the White Mountains (bristlecone pines!) to Las Vegas, then come back down through Palm Springs to San Diego, and end up back in LA. Your itinerary's fine, though.

LA's going to be a bit hot and miserable in summer, so you'll want to stay close to the beach - Santa Monica, Venice Beach, all these are good options. In Las Vegas it's going to be stinking hot (you're in the desert in the height of summer), so plan to spend a lot of time by the pool, or indoors (go see Penn and Teller at the Rio, and maybe whoever's in residence at Caesars).

SF's going to be much cooler and foggier - you'll probably appreciate the change. Rent a bike and go riding around the city - if you're reasonably fit you can even ride all the way across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, the next town up the road from SF, and then catch a ferry back. Go see the museums - the Cal Academy of Science is terrific, and the just-reopened SF MOMA is the equal of any modern art museum in the world.

And nobody really does this, but you should: if you're interested in the cable cars, make sure you stop by the Cable Car Museum, just up near North Beach; you can see the huge drive wheels that power the cables, and even buy a little slice of cable as a souvenir paperweight.

Plugged in some random dates for Nov/early dec and got a range of prices from sgd1340 to 2720

If u are flexible with your dates, can get a better price.

bro and sis, i am planning a trip end of the year to LA-VEGAS-SFO for 10-14 days. Is there any sample itinerary that can be shared? Appreciate your help cos first time to US with wife.

shopping, theme parks and 1-2 sightseeing is what i am aiming for.

another question: from singapore, is it wiser to take SIN-SFO-SIN round trip or SIN-LA then SFO-SIN?

look through the thread bro, tons of info. or, go to a travel agency pick up their sample itienary then see where you want to go from there

LA: six flags, disneyland, USS

google for premium outlets, quite a few in those 3 cities

SIN-LA SFO-SIN makes more sense

I assume you're driving
The open jaw itinerary makes more sense, arrive SFO depart LAX

It is quite a comfortable pace, although u wanna consider flying from SF to Vegas or LA as it's easily 1000km, and takes almost 2 days driving time.

Thanks for the recommendations! My friend's based near LA (Irvine) so we are making trips out of there around the weekends, was initially thinking of doing Yosemite/White mountains-LV but it was kind of hard to fit that into our schedule. Doing the Highway 1 and will be staying on the coast (Pismo, cambria, monterey etc) which will hopefully be cooler. Will be staying at Hotel Kabuki at SF - any interesting places nearby? (understand you're based in SF?)

trd2970 - thanks for the ideas, booked the alcatraz cruise and planning for the GC day tour as well. USS midway looks interesting!

patryn33 - with so many restrictions on Amazon shipping to SG nowadays might still be a good idea to use Amazon. Thinking of other non-SG online retailers though, any suggestion?

Really depends on what you want to buy. Too bulky also hard to bring back

There are plenty of sample itineraries on this thread for that particular route. The big question is: are you planning to drive? If you are, it's a hell of a lot easier to do the trip, because you can drive around LA, drive to Disneyland, drive to Las Vegas, and drive around the SF bay area.
