But, this time round, with a toddler in tow, really dunno if we should just take a rental car or the PT in SF. Dunno how child-friendly are they?

Definitely take public transport. If you're staying in the middle of town, you aren't going to want to have to wrangle a car around downtown SF. (It's reasonably toddler-friendly, as well.)

You might want to head out to the Cal Academy of Sciences, as well - it's an easy ride from downtown on the #5 bus, and it's fantastic entertainment for kids.

Guys, which data sim to get for use in NY for my iPhone 5S?

or ReadySIM? http://www.readysim.com/shop.html

I'd be arriving at NYC and connecting to Buffalo. I should have extra time in JFK.
Better to get at JFK or Buffalo airport?

Thanks

OK So means I can look at t-mobile with 3g? I'm ok as long got data. ;)

You need to check T-Mobile store. They do not sell data only SIMs (for ipads) for iphone. They will sell you voice+data sim, which costs around $80 and includes 200MB of data.

I'm using a T-mobile mifi device. Not sure if you can get it cheaper than from T-mobile (ie from ebay or elsewhere). This coupled with the Pay in Advance Mobile Internet, US$30 for 3GB / 30 days or US$15 for 1GB / 7 days at LTE / HSDPA speeds (I think max 21Mbps limited for prepaid). Might be cheaper than the $80 for 200MB, if the store happens to have the refurbished model or you get from ebay at much cheaper. SIM card expires 1 year from last usage. I'm in US at least once a year for business trip, so bought one of this device for use last year. No voice though, I'm fine with skyping and whatsapp only. Can share internet among a few devices.

Depending on when you go, if you don't clash with my trips, I can rent you mine, so you only have to fork out a nominal fee for use of the device.

It's cold in Brooklyn now - 10 ish degrees but the winds bring a chill to the bone!

At&t card costs usd115, the store is just out of the departure gates on your right in JFK (free local calls, sms, 2 gb data. Add on extra GB for usd10)

Groceries cost a bomb in Brooklyn, are the prices like this all over US?

No, prices are generally more expensive in bigger / denser cities. My friend in NY came to Los Angeles and he was commenting how cheap food is there (I'd say sometimes even cheaper than SG). We ordered a whole table of dim sum, which he said would cost at least $200 in NY. The bill was like $120.

Similarly, gas prices are cheaper in suburb towns than in major cities.

eh? where got cold? weather is so nice now compared to winter! But it is a bit hazy today cos of the forest fire in NJ. I find prices are quite reasonable as long as you buy seasonally. USD1 for a punnet of strawberries where to find in SG?

I've compared some fruits, some dairy products like cheese and ham. They are a little more expensive, no? Just note that I haven't managed to shop at a proper supermarket yet, only delis/small provision shops which are around the area I'm putting up at :)

Shopping wise, it is wayyyyy cheaper than Singapore. Do not bring your credit card to us unless you want to max it out!

think depends on what fruits. strawberries are going for usd1 a punnet in flushing n chinatown now. its sgd6.99 on offer at cold storage. always best to buy seasonally cos that's when u get freshest and cheapest fruits. cheese n ham has a greater selection here.

but some delis/provision shops really cut people. the one near me charges usd4+ a gallon when even duane reade charges 3+. how long are you in NY? If staying here for a while, you might want to explore the bigger supermarkets, drugstores and chinatown. prices are very much better. or check out the farmer's markets. prices are higher but its really fun to see the new seasonal fruits. sometimes they even let you sample. during peak apple season, there was a fruit stall in union square that gave samples of all their different apples. was a real eye opener for me. v yummy eye opener too. :p

If you are just here for short while as tourist then think no point purposely go those places look for cheaper groceries lah.

these places are like SG mama shops, shop there and U are treated like robert.

if u hang around Brooklyn check out these places. Trader Joe’s prices is ok, but I don't shop there. Aldi is cheap.
Grocery store Brooklyn, NY
