Hi everyone. I'm very likely to go LA LV SF for starting in Nov. Need to book air tickets by this Thurs for Sq promo. But my current passport is due 18 may 2018.

Does anyone know how strict is US customs on passport expiring within 6mths?

The links show singapore as one of those excluded from the 6 mth passport validity rule. Is this accurate?

If I'm going USA from 30 Oct to 15 Nov and my passport is expiring 18 may 2018, my passport is considered slightly more than 6mths validity?

With Mr. Trump in white house, I will not take any risks on validity of passport. The rules may change any time with hime around. SG almost lost the "no visa" requirement just a few months back.

You said depends on pickup location, so i asked whether Budget at Union Square is ok lor. lol

My friend's research showed that they are relatively cheaper amongst the bigger names

Yes, Budget is cheap and they have a reputation of overcharging after the car is returned, through unaurhorized cc transactions. Please remember, they will ask to swipe your cc when you are collecting the car. Google and you will know more.
So it is cheap upfront and pay more later....haha....

I had no issues with Budget during my rental at Philadelphia. They did charge me a couple more dollars due to taxes when I returned the car half a day later than scheduled but refunded me upon my follow up query.

Swiping the cc first upon car collection is not unique to Budget. I've experienced it with Alamo and Hertz too

Need your advice please!

1) The base-model Mustang isn't really a muscle car; it comes with a pïssweak 2-litre four-cylinder. Get yourself a 5-litre Mustang GT if you can. And don't get a Camaro unless you're at least 6'2"; I drove one a few years back, and the seating position is so low I could barely see out of the car, and I'm 5'11". Reversing was always a bit exciting.

2) Texan drivers are nuts. Be prepared for high speeds, crazy lane changes, and getting cut off. Just learn to deal with it and go with the flow. Interstate highway driving is actually pretty easy.

3) Go to Austin, it's a ton of fun. Dallas/Fort Worth is a bit meh.

Planning a Jan trip up to US looking at 2 options

1) East Coast - NYC, Boston, ....
2) West Coast - SF, LA, Vegas

Looking at 2-3weeks

Any adv if it's better to travel to east coast or west during the Jan period - hopefully to avoid crowd from the Xmas-new year season. Weather is also another concern I presume?

Thanks

Weather wise, San Francisco. Public transport wise, NYC and/or Boston.

When you say weather means what?
Jan is winter and will be cold.
West no snow, east snows...

Yeah, mid-January is a good idea—it's after the Christmas rush. You'll want to do the west coast around that time though, because the east coast will be absolutely freezing. NY and DC won't be as much fun when you're buried under six inches of snow, or tramping through gray slush.

Be careful of the Vegas leg, though. Vegas gets surprisingly cold in the winter; the Grand Canyon will be snowy as heck around that time; and Zion will be pretty much out of the question.

I might even suggest swapping out Las Vegas for Hawaii! Hawaii in January is peak season, but it's pretty special; you can go snorkeling or whale-watching, the weather's perfect, and it's never a bad time to visit the islands.
